Calm, calm! Now to address your first point, I made no mention of Trump or Bolsonaro or Putin but in the case of Trump, Americans were just so exhausted of the left tearing up cities, destroying property and so on they just voted for Biden in the hope of a little peace, not knowing he was about to do his damnedest to incite WW3 with our Russian friends by provoking war in Ukraine. Bolsonaro is a different beast. He is what you get when the right have an allergic reaction to the ultra left. My feeling is the dumping of Bolsonaro in Brazil is understandable as most people want to preserve, protect and replant the rainforests, yet (and I hope I am wrong) his incumbent opponent will somehow manage do do a worse job than Bolsonaro. Obviously being a socialist, the new Brazilian PM will probably do a fair bit of damage but my fear is he will go way beyond the normal amount of damage you would expect from a socialist - as in keeping with the times (extreme right to extreme left). Fundamentally I think President Putin is a very good man. We in the west have become a dystopian shadow of our former selves. The good old fashioned family values and Christian societies were what made us great. Even Democrats of the past were better than today's right wing leaders or at least on a par with them. President Kennedy was a good Christian but on the downside, he was too profligate with taxpayers money. The wayward drifting of today's society is as much as anything the reason for the war in Ukraine. Ultimately, nuclear war and global catastrophe could happen because some people in the west think some people should be addressed with non conforming pronouns while others elsewhere want to retain the right to use whatever pronouns they like and don't like NATO threatening them. Who is the most insane? I reckon your camp.

You might be familiar with an expression the old people used.

    I'll leave you to God.

I think this thread needs to die now. 🦈☠️ How did we get from Ursula von der Leyen's speech to this?

Truly sickening. And I'm sure our TD's jumped to their feet clapping like "performing monkeys" in same way they did for Zelensky!

    I disagree.

We have a male suicide problem in this country that broadly increased starting in the 1970s. Nothing to do with Britain and America or their media.

Now we have a collapsing reproduction rate, which if you take evolutionary biology seriously points to something profoundly dysfunctional in our way of life.

Why? If people don't want to have children then they shouldn't. I don't see the issue here.

As if an exponentially increasing human population is somehow a good thing

Global population has already more than doubled in my lifetime, if humanity becomes extinct it won't be lack of desire to have kids which causes it.

@growleaves we always had suicide in Ireland, we just used to be highly incentivised to cover it up due to both it being a crime and highly stigmatised by the church. Blaming the EEC/EU on it (with zero evidence, naturally) is both bizarre and ridiculous.

It used to be highly frowned upon if a married couple hadn't "produced" within a couple of years of getting married, and if they failed to produce "enough" (i.e. 4 at least)

Don't forget contraception being illegal of course and sex education all but unknown.

Forcing people to have kids whether they want to or not is very catho-fascist but that was Ireland all over.

Of course. Conservatives brutalise the working class and then wonder why so few people want to bring babies into the world.
