Resting up after getting pins put in my femur and braking ankle so this year is looking very unlikely

Travelling long distances to play wont be as easy with kids getting that age so probably gonna have this year a miss

Hoping for possibly a guest invite for the Castle day out

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,954 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

Ah damn, sorry to hear it. Hope you're back on the horse soon.

There's a slightly reduced number of slots (30) for Castle in June as it's a Friday evening social (an experiment!). If there's any guest space closer to time you're on the list.

Hey RR, looking forward to the year ahead, not sure how many I will manage to play, but we are starting with 3 favourites of mine, so hopefully I can make some of those.

Hope to be reading out your name for the win after one of them!

Hi all. I'm new to the boards society. A couple of friends put me onto this society, they said its a great way to play some excellent courses. Hoping to get out to play soon.

if by any chance people have changed club and have new GUI numbers please keep me updated so that we can have cards ready to go. I may invite you as friend on Golf Ireland as this makes life a lot easier to look up handicaps so please make sure you accept request

Driving home from the Captains in Mount Juliet last sept i made the usual promise to myself that that i was going to spend the winter going between the gym and driving range and that i would arrive at the first boards outing with a unreconisable game with booming 300yd drives and stiching the irons to the pins🙂.

Roll on six months later i will be teeing it up tomorrow with only one round two weeks ago under my belt and as for the gym i have worked in a few recently if that counts as workout.

One thing i did prove to myself last year is that you can't improve without practice, although starting out at Portmarnock i didnt play too badly finishing mid field. Moving on to the Monty i thought i had a good chance of finishing top 3 with 35pts but ended up outside the top Ten. As the season went on i progressively got worst and found myself in a famililar position in recent years proping up the player of year table. Hopefully this year i will be joining a course and maybe get myself back nearer to the top of the table.

A big thanks to Fixit for great year last year who with the aid of commitee lads hard work he brought the society to a new level and no better man than Roadrunner to continue the mantle.

I am delighted to get a chance to play a couple of new courses namely the The Castle and Slieve Russell and i have fond memories of Glasson. One things for sure we are guranteed plenty of laughts with Mick in charge.

Ps i would like to thank the fellow unamed boardie [we can call him the Stig] who has motivated me big time this season with the kind bet he laid me for 20 euro that i won't finish ahead of him in any boards outing this year.🤣🤣 so if yee hear some roars of laughter in the Balcarrig Clubhouse tomorrow, you can take it i have collected already🥳.

Looking forward to it, i better go to bed.

Hard to believe it’s the 1st round of a new year already.

What is even harder to believe is this will be the start of our 13th year. It’s come a long way since July 2011.

I found this photo from our 1st day out at Dundrum. Father Time hasn’t been kind to me

Have a great year Roadrunner and all Boardsies.

You're a bit hard on yourself John, you haven't aged a day (that's you in the middle?).

Well done on the win and I'm sorry to hear about your father.

The fun factor was off the charts that day ^ 😐️

Just to point to any new people thinking about joining, we're normally way happier looking 😀

    IMPORTANT* Course schedule update

We have heard from one of our courses about a scheduling problem on our Friday 30th June booking which will sadly remove that planned course from our schedule. I'm happy to say we've swapped in Lucan Golf Club for our friday afternoon event in late June instead.

The new schedule is as follows:

Shout out to the society committee members who have been very quick and helpful in helping me find a new venue for this outing.

Lucan is a great replacement. Lovely course and a nice few options to socialise after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 619 ✭✭✭bakerbhoy

Thanks RR. Accommodation booked. Few options close to course.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,954 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

I was actually thinking of you BB and what you said about accom to me at the last round. Accom options in lucan seem to be better 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,051 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

OK, so a bit of fun for the day that was in it 🤣

here is the real state of play

Lads, what's the usual layout of the day? Do the group get food/drinks after, stay over, etc? Myself and a mate (maybe two) are hoping to get out with the society this year but it's all new to us.

Usually you will get a fair few lads arrive early, some will practice, some will sit in bar for coffee, chat, snack.

most guys tend to hang around after for a bite to eat and a bit of craic and banter as we do the results and announce the prize winners and losers 🤣

some lads have to dash off quickly and don’t hang around, other commitments, family etc it can be a long day with travel so nothing expected if you can’t stay after it’s understood……… but they are missing out 😆

we tend to really organise a big group stay over for captains weekend, but depending on location it has been known for a few to arrange a stay over at other outings or even bring wife/kids to earn a few brownie points

looking forward to seeing you at an outing soon
