Getting terrestrial TV - But no aerial or Saorview

Hey Folks.

i am with Virgin and just have Internet only. Is it possible to tune in some terrestrial TV channels ?

I see my LG Smart TV does have the option for manual and auto tune , i ‘ve run through the auto tune and its come back with nothing .

Not sure if its because i am doing it wrong if it will never work at all.

Any assistantance is appreciated.

It depends on your location. If you are in a strong signal area an indoor aerial might do.

The TV's tuner requires an aerial to be connected.

As suggested above a small indoor aerial might suffice if the signal is good enough. Argos or some of the hardware shops may have cheap ones for testing.

I wouldn't spend too much, an expensive aerial won't perform much better than a cheap one if the signal isn't good enough where you place it.

Before spending any money I would ask the neighbours what they use for Saorview - indoor or outdoor aerial.

I take it the best i can hope for is to pick up Rte 1 and 2, Virgin 1 and 2 and TG4.

If your TV has DVB-C it will probably get RTE1 and only RTE1 off the cable connection (and the radio stations). This was all they had unencrypted last time I bothered checking.

All rubbish.You need something that looks like an aerial not a bit of plastic. Don't get anything amplified, an amp on an indoor aerial just gives louder noise. Look for Telecam TCE2000.

Got Saorview working with bunny ears here from an old analog tv.

Got a better one eventually… but you should get results from even the cheapest ones..

Well it all depends on where you are so a bit pointless reply.

NB So called rabbits ears are VHF aerials for FM and DAB, not suitable for UHF TV.
