It's been an historic year for the Irish women's team after they qualified for a first ever World Cup under Vera Pauw. Out of 11 games played this year, the team won 8, drew 2, and lost just the once to Russia in a February friendly game.

Many players deserve credit but I've narrowed the contenders for this award down to 4 players who I felt were the standouts. If you feel someone was overlooked, you can vote in the 'Other' category and name them in the thread.

    Courtney Brosnan

Brosnan proved to be a solid performer throughout the qualifying campaign and had a crucial moment in the play-off win over Scotland by saving a penalty early on. She has confirmed herself as the first-choice keeper.

    Katie McCabe

McCabe, as captain, led by example, scoring for Ireland in the commendable 1-1 draw away to one of the world's best sides Sweden, and managing a hat-trick in the 9-0 thrashing of Georgia. Her set-piece deliveries were a big influence, and at club level she continues to be a key player for an Arsenal side ranked 2nd in the WSL. She recently won the FAI Women's Player of the Year award and was a nominee for RTE Sportsperson of the Year.

    Louise Quinn

Quinn was a rock at the back for Ireland as the team managed to notch up vital clean sheets against Finland, Slovakia and Scotland, plus the fine 1-1 draw away in Sweden. She has also got herself on the scoresheet with 2 goals against Georgia, and a recent goal in a friendly win against Morocco on her 100th cap.

    Denise O'Sullivan

O'Sullivan continued to be a dependable presence in midfield, excelling in several games, and scoring a vital winner in the 1-0 victory over Slovakia. She also got a goal in the hammering of Georgia, and the winner in a 1-0 friendly with Wales. She is one of the side's most important players.

It's up to yourselves to decide the basis for your vote. Like the men's poll, the aim is to close it a week from today at 7pm, on the 28th of December.
