Typical fee for the priest? (CoI if it makes a difference)

Hi there,

Getting married mid-2023 and want to make sure we have the right amounts put by for everything. One thing we're wondering about is the priest fee. The parish website sets out the fee for use of the church, fee to the Sexton and for the organist, but the priest basically said it was up to us if we wanted to provide a contribution for his services. Obviously we will be inviting him and his wife to the reception afterwards, but wouldn't like to short change the man.

Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share what they paid/will be paying the priest for his services?

Are you a regular attender at the church?

No, it's the church where I grew up and I now live abroad, so we'll be paying the church fee that's for people who aren't regular members of the congregation.

What fee are you being charged for the church?

We gave the priest 200euro. We had a catholic ceremony though so not sure what is reasonable for other religions.

I'm assuming your ceremony isn't Catholic as you mention that your priest has a wife. It may be helpful to mention the type of ceremony you are having.

Alright Mrs Smartass - the OP amended it after they first posted it. It didnt say the religion in the title of the original post hence me asking!!
