Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am trying to find my chimney damper I have a terrible draught coming down my chimney but when H look up my chimney I cannot see a handle or anything to close the damper I had a sheep put up the chimney nut total waste of time Gale still blowing down the chimney Would it be possible that I don't have a damper? I remember years ago my father used to put his hand io the chimney to open and close it I wonder was the damper removed when the central heating was put in?

you had a sheep put up the chimney?

you could get a chimney balloon. designed to burst quickly if someone lights a fire without thinking.

Yes the chimney sheep is in both downstairs chimneys Put them up instead of the balloon because I was told the sheep is better than the the balloon I would love love to just close the damper but can't see it We definitely used to have a damper

To be honest, you'd be best off calling a chimney sweep who'll inspect the chimney and tell you whether there is a chain and damper still in situ. It may have been removed or even rusted out in the past.

If he finds that sheep he'll probably know a shepherd too.

Hi Susan and Deirdre. I was having quite a giggle at this thread, before realising a Chimney Sheep is an actual thing. 😄😃😉

Anyway - wondering what you thought of it? Does it seem effective in reducing heat loss (when there isn't a gale)? Is it messy to handle? I had a chimney balloon a few years ago, but found it very messy to remove and put back in....

Get a H cowl for the pot, it should cut out the down draught
