    Hey guys,

Tried to search for an answer but it wasnt popping out at me - if you have a mortgage on PPR and want to leave Ireland for a period (a few years) can you switch property to Rental and claim mortgage interest relief?

Or is that not available as it is a home/private residence mortgage?

    Any tips/advice welcome!

    Thanks!

If you rent out your PPR for a period; when filing your tax return including your rental income, you'll be able to claim a deduction of the interest paid so long as you've met the conditions for claim info the interest as a deduction, IE is the tenancy registered with the PRTB as required and if your were getting TRS on your mortgage interest payments that will have to be discontinued. Just remember the impact for CGT purposes as well if you ever dispose of the property.
