So no video of this abuse exists , despite it being done in public?

LOL. you really do have a very high opinion of yourself. entirely unwarranted.

The question has been answered, repeatedly - The school themselves said he was fired for gross misconduct relating to his behaviour towards the Principal at a public school event.

There is no debate on that issue.

Enoch (and his defenders) will argue that the confrontation would not have occurred were it not for the initial instruction from the school regarding the treatment of a transgender pupil , but that does not alter the fact that he was fired for verbally abusing his employer at a public event.

For not having a dog in the fight you're doing a lot of barking for him.

    I misunderstood so. Apologies.

    I'd agree with you.

Giving racists a platform gives them the power to hurt the people they hate indirectly. How do you think it impacts children if people they hear people talking about how inferior they are just because of the colour of their skin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,774 ✭✭✭✭BattleCorp

It's only a €700 fine for each day he turns up at the school. If he sits at home, he doesn't get fined for that day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 470 ✭✭archermoo

Not true. It is a €700 fine each day he has not purged his contempt. Whether or not he shows up to the school.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,607 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Nope. No video that I'm aware of. Doesn't mean it didn't happen or that there weren't witnesses. Regardless, the school suspended him (which they wouldn't have done without a basis for doing so), he ignored the suspension and kept showing up, the school took him to court to enforce it, he was held in contempt for then continuing to show up and ignoring the court order, etc etc.

His suspension and everything that followed was based on his own actions, regardless of his refusal to follow the direction of the school/principal. It wasn't his disagreement, it was the manner in which voiced and acted out his disagreement.

Not quite. People jailed for not paying their TV licence do a few days in jail in lieu of paying the fine. They don't have to pay the fine when they get out of jail or be jailed again. Open to correction on this.

At ~€5k a week (judge's figure), that's sixteen weeks and it'll be mid-May. Imagine being the students and staff who have to put up with all this nonsense for that long, especially those who are preparing for exams.

The students' welfare should be put above all else and this needs to be nipped in the bud.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,607 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Not everything that happens in a public place is caught on video.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭BruteStock

Have you proof of this verbal abuse? I won't deny the evidence if you provide it.

This reminds me of the Amy Gallagher situation. A forensic psychology student who was forced to confront “the reality of white privilege” as part of the curriculum. She opposed the course and was accused of hate speech. After she defended herself she was told not to attend class as she was a danger to others. She was eventually told to leave the course.

This "verbal abuse" could have been Enoch merly making a case for himself , same as Amy Gallagher.

No. It's €700 per day for as long as he doesn't purge the contempt. The judge himself has said that the charge amounts to "just short of 5k per week" which is 7*700

If he stops going to the school (or can't because it's the week-end) but has not informed the Judge of his acceptance of the Injunction the charges will continue to rack up.

I won't deny the evidence if you provide it.

Of course you will. you will just find some other excuse, as per

I just noticed the motto on the school crest there that Enoch is looking at, Res non Verba

Literally meaning "things, not words" or "facts instead of words" but referring to that "actions be used instead of words"

It is alleged that process commenced after Mr Burke publicly voiced his alleged opposition to the school principal’s direction to address a student by a different name and pronoun.

It is claimed that Mr Burke interrupted an anniversary service in June that was attended by clergy, staff, parents, board members and past and present pupils. He is alleged to have said the school’s then principal, Niamh McShane, should withdraw the earlier demand regarding the student.

It is also claimed that he said he could not agree with transgenderism as it went against the school’s ethos and the teaching of the Church of Ireland.

The school claims that students and members of the congregation walked out of the school chapel where the service was being conducted after he spoke.

He is alleged to have approached the principal after the meal and again asked her to withdraw the request regarding the student.

If he felt his suspension was unfair, there were legal means and policy by which he could have challenged it. He instead chose to ignore the suspension, and continued to show up to work.

So again, there was no video, but numerous witnesses. Had Burke followed correct procedure to challenge the suspension, he could have called some of those witnesses to back him up that he was acting reasonably. He didn't, and to my knowledge nobody has ever come forward to say he was acting reasonably.

Only right too. I take it he is not on the lunchtime news today then yet?

Be interesting to see how far he trys to go now without purging his contempt. How much is he willing to have to pay and push it out by? Will he still turn up at the school or stop.

Someone like him could have and should have been quiet successful with a nice house car abd partner by now but guess what his religion is holding him back. If only he could see it. Don't get be wrong there is plenty of people who go to mass or their church and are succesfull too but imagine if they used that time to be more successful.

I am not saying that all people are held back in there job or work by religion some might even benefit from it but Burke certainly is not and is being held back by his brainwashed beliefs. He is too blinded to see that do.

    Peace and long life.

    It's a pity it's not being doubled everyday, 700, 1400 etc.

Lol this is todays strawman antics.

Very well organised after yesterdays "curriculum" antics.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭BruteStock

There's no law that states you must use a person pronouns so in his mind he wasn't required to challenge his suspension legally.

    Another article:

The school claims that last June a service and dinner was held to mark its 260th anniversary.

It was attended by clergy, staff, past and present pupils, parents, and board members.

It is claimed that Burke interrupted the service and said that the school’s then principal, Niamh McShane, should withdraw the earlier demand regarding the student.

It is also claimed that he said that he could not agree with transgenderism, and said it went against the school’s ethos and the teaching of the Church of Ireland.

The school claims that after he spoke members of the congregation and students walked out of the school chapel where the service was being conducted.

It is claimed that at the follow-up dinner Burke did not sit at any table.

After the meal he is alleged to have approached the Principal, and again asked her to withdraw the request regarding the student.

Arising out of Burke’s alleged conduct a disciplinary process was commenced, and considered by the board, resulting in a decision to place him on administrative leave pending the outcome of the process.

As per the articles, the incidents happened during a private Mass service, and a meal afterwards.

I think that may be the next step.

Judge has said that he will review the amount of the fine on the 10th of February and adjust accordingly if the current €700/day isn't working.

On the same day , he also will rule on who is responsible for all the legal costs in the case thus far which will probably result in another very hefty bill for Enoch as it's hard to see the Judge not deciding that Enoch should bear the entire cost of this given how utterly frivolous the whole thing is.

Met a friend a few days ago whose son is a teacher. Son told how a pupil in his school of about 15 declared 'herself; a male. School bought in and even built a special toilet for 'him' , Just over a year later shehe/ heshe/ they/?/declared they were a female again. Don't know all the circumstances obviously -that's the bare bones of it. Sure maybe it was all a lark , an experiment in curiosity , some form of rebellion or attention-seeking. Or maybe all perfectly genuine. Possibly hard to know in certain cases.

Reminds me of the story of the scientist at the Cavendish Laboratory in the early days of research on the atom. On being asked what exactly physicists thought the atom was -he/(she) responded that on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays they thought it was a particle , on Tuesdays , Thursdays and Saturdays they thought it was a wave and on Sundays they just couldn't be sure.

but there was a school policy in place that we was required to follow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,219 ✭✭✭Viscount Aggro

Similar happened in Mount Temple school, Dublin. the school is known for being liberal.

Students and staff were made aware of change in a student's circumstances.

A teacher was telling me, on coming back in September, a 6th year pupil.... is now to be known as Paula, and not Paul.

If Enock has no intention of paying the fine and no property in his name it doesn't matter if the fine is 7 million per day. It is clear that he won't pay because that would be admitting guilt and going against his conscience. He would rather do jail and probably will do it. He'll keep saying that he is standing up for his beliefs. Don't rule out a hunger strike at some stage.
