Ref probably got in the way of Brighton defender trying to make clearance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Didn't Gomez get done by Welbeck a few weeks back?

Nunez and Gakpo poor again. TAA a laibility. Mitoma MOTM. De Zerbi is the man.

commentators were saying VAR couldn't look at it as outside of the box, bit confused now as they can defo check for reds.

The fall off this season from Liverpool is unbelievable....I knew losing Mane would hurt them however not by this much...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,541 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Yeah last man back no attempt at ball, so no idea why they'd have say that. Var obviously felt it wasn't a foul so no card necessary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,206 ✭✭✭fyfe79

It's not losing Mane, it's losing Mane, Jota, Dias, Firmino. That and the midfield (Fabinho & Henderson especially) losing their legs. As soon as those 2 came on as subs, it fell apart again. Gomez is not good enough either, he's proving it time and time again. It's a mistake playing him instead of Matip. Need VVD back too, even if he's not at his previous levels.

pundits after reiterating that VAR couldn't check it as outside of the box. just wish they would reference the rules so we know why VAR couldn't check

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,171 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Can't disagree...would also think Alexander Arnold needs to be dropped...poor defender

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,356 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

He definitely botched the prounciation of Meath, as many do over here - Meet.

He did say it was up from Dublin and he was from a seaside town.

From one seaside town to another, just hope he has not injury from that challenge. The more I see of it the more it is a red.

The magic of the Cup, eh? Delighted to see a team with a lower net spend beat a team with a higher net spend. Warms the cockles.

C'mon Wrexham. I'd love to see them win this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 193 ✭✭Bluebb993

Didn't look very happy coming of.

Kelleher has to make a move for his own sake. A waste of a year staying at Liverpool to play about 3 ganes

Not the start Wrexham would have wanted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,328 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Because the ref did not blow for the free kick VAR can not get involved. VAR is not used to look at free kicks. If the ref blew for a free kick and didn't give a card or gave a yellow card VAR could have told him to go look or give him a red card. Liverpool got very lucky on that exchange and then with Fabinho and Robertson challenges. Outside of the pens they can look at incidents the ref did not see which is why it can look at red cards outside the area for serious fouls. That is my understanding of how VAR is to work.

Yeah the subs made Liverpool worse. They were mostly in control of the game until the big deflected goal. If Salah had his shooting boots on, could have easily been 2-0 before that goal.

The subs on 60 changed the game and gave Brighton more space to pass and run into, thus create problems. Trent actually played well but you know it's the bandwagon thing to jump on him because of a few mistakes 4 months ago. He cleared one chance off of the goal line and Mitomo only came alive really after the 60th minute. Milner was a poor replacement. Ramsey still not available to play.

Henderson was terrible and Fabinho had one of, if not the actual, worst performances by a substitute I've ever seen. Should have been sent off and he basically told every one the same with his reactions. The midfield was much much worse after Keita left, with more gaps, less energy and less pass forwards. Dull. Surprised Bacjetic lasted so long, especially while on a booking, but did well for a teenager and was mature enough.

Don't think Robertson was a red card. It was late but it was a 50/50 iirc and the Brighton player got there first. Yellow card, it's pretty common.

If it had finished a draw, I think it would have been fair enough, but Brighton got their goal - brilliant play by Mitoma. And they deserve to go through because of it. He's a lovely player, it will be interesting to see what his potential will be, as he is still relatively new to European football.

Wrexham losing 2 central defenders in the first 10 minutes, doesn't bode well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,541 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Only one team in it this half, wrexham ahead now

Edit: scrap that, level again, scrappy enough goal

Andy Carroll has ended Ericsonns season - one a class footballer , the other an over hyped nobody . nice one Andy .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,142 ✭✭✭jacool

Andy Carroll has scored more Premier League goals than Eriksen. Agreed, he tackles like Scholes though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,199 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Out of curiosity, took a look to see what the difference was - Carroll has only 1 more Premier league goal than Eriksen! Found that quite interesting, would've thought the gap would be larger given that Carroll has only ever played in England and is actually a striker. Eriksen has more top flight goals of the pair if you include his time in Serie A (even ignoring Ajax). Eriksen has a lot more goals overall too, for both club and country.

There was about 5 minutes there in the first half of 10/11 when it looked like Carroll might be the real deal. What a swift deflation that was.

Leicester are 2 down at home to Blackburn with less than 30 to go - not what they were expecting.
