Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Getting an annual service for a Heat Pump ?

    Hi,

New to Heat pumps and I have a few questions:

    1. I assume it needs an annual service like a gas boiler ?
    2. If so, who services them, is it just any plumber or someone more specifically qualified ?
    3. What exactly needs servicing? With gas, the boiler along with other miscellaneous cylinders were all located together and I assume that the guy doing the serviced them all. With the heat pump there is the pump itself which is outside:

But then there are also a bunch of cylinders etc upstairs in the hotpress:

So is it just external access that's required to service literally the heat pump unit itself or will they also have to go into the hotpress to service some or all of these cylinders shown above ?

    Thanks,

    Usjes.

I was doing some work in a house when the service guy called. He opened the cover on the pump. Checked around the cylinder and expansion vessels. He checked the flow rate on the underfloor heating and went through the programming on the controller. He also checked the operation of the room thermostats. He was about 90 minutes there.

I don't believe an annual service is required for a heat pump. (Happy to be corrected on this) I would have thought every two years would be fine. Most regular plumbers won't be set up for servicing heat pumps. They contain coolant / refrigerant and like the coolant / refrigerant in your car, this should be recharged every two years or so. Not many regular plumbers will have the equipment to preform the recharge. This would be the most important part of the service.

Usually anyone or any company offering heat pump installation will be happy to service the unit
