    Was there anything in the letter about an appeals process?

    I don't know about CPL conducted interviews, but certainly interviews conducted by PublicJobs, or internal competitions, have an appeals process. You can request feedback, breakdown of scores, notes and appeal it.

    Professional Knowledge and Experience would seem not to cover educational quals etc. Would the latter not be addressed primarily by means of a person's application? I am not aware that public bodies carry out "sham" interviews - why would they? It costs time and money to run them and I would be very surprised if the HSE is not subject to a code of practice in such matters, whether it runs the process itself or contracts it out.

    Challenging the process is possible, but it won't change the result.

    Whats more, it is likely to result in you being weeded out and not considered for further roles because you'll have identified yourself as a complainer and troublesome.

    Also, while there is an outward appearance of transparency, all recruitment (public and private) has a certain percentage of pre-annointed candidates who are informally advised to apply and get through with a nod and a wink. On paper everything will look fine, but there's informal cute hoor strokes being pulled behind the scenes.

    And this is often why recruitment interview and applications are a bit wishy washy. It is all vague and subjective enough that they can manipulate it and still have it hold up and look transparent and fair even when someone challenges it.

    Why should any of the questions be tailored towards your qualifications or experience? The objective of the exercise is surely to determine if you have the professional competence they need and it would appear not. I don't see why you should think it was a sham, you were just not what they needed.

    wow I don’t think I’ve ever received an email that said I wasn’t offered a job where my immediate thought was to go online and find out if I can sue..?

    OP honestly what do you expect will happen if you make a nuisance of yourself over this? CPL at least will never offer you another interview as long as they’re around and you still won’t get this job.

    My advice to you is to suck it up, request more in depth feedback if you like, but overall just frankly get over yourself. You didn’t get the job, keep looking, there’s one for you somewhere, but with an attitude like yours you won’t get far.

    I think people try to explore what questions are likely to be asked and prep based on same. It's not a quiz to test how many questions you can answer on your specialist subject.

    Put it down to experience and try take the experience as something to work on for the next interview.

    OP what was the essential qualification criteria? I'd almost understand your frustrations if a 3rd level qualification was essential to apply for the role. If not then forget about.

    I work in the Public service myself and I'm happy with the way competitions are now more focusing on experience and practical skills rather than book knowledge. We've got some duds in based on their certificates in the past.
