Correct timing for Balbirnie. Tector will be the captain you would imagine long term so I would say they may pass it around a couple of the senior players over the coming years until it is his time.

Big T20 qualifier coming up in a couple of weeks time, so no down period for this side.

In general Ireland are crying out for a couple of batsmen in that top order. Haven't solved the opening issue and Balbirnie as a batsman hasn't been at the standard required for some time.

It's the right time for Balbirnie, the team are just too inconsistent..

Ladies having a rough time against the West Indies… 11 overs gone of the Irish batting innings and just 61/3

Only 5 boundaries in 11 overs… T20 international, pressures on.

    75/4… another giveaway wicket.

After 20 over they put up 112/7..

Only 11 boundaries in the 20 overs.

    start the car.

I doubt there's too many sad to see Balbirnie stepping aside, this tournament was a real low point, especially while watching the Dutch and Scots putting in some great performances, the kind we used to do.

On the positive side, hopefully he can concentrate on his batting again now that he won't have that stress anymore.

Lost a thriller by 2 wickets off the last ball, very unlucky in the end

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,473 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yeah they came back very well, last delivery Murray bowled a wide to level the scores … and the winning runs scored off the extra delivery… 🥺

A real sickening way to lose…..

Irish girls though conceded 16 extras, including 10 wides. Not good. West Indies conceded only 2 extras.

In need of more incisive bowlers I'd have thought partic at ODI level.

I suppose from Balbirnie's POV, he's going out on a high of sorts - three consecutive wins at the tail end of the tournament.

Doesn’t look like Fionn Hand will be the answer… just about got his feet under the table granted , a young cricketer but not one as yet who is providing a real consistent wicket taking threat to opposition teams.

With technology, fitness expertise…. Can it be that hard just to develop a small group of those ‘incisive’ wicket takers who can be up around 86/87/88 mph or quicker ? Consistently ? Regularly see the likes of Hand bowling late 70’s early 80’s but to get some genuine fast bowlers up around those aforementioned speeds….mid / late 80’s and occasionally early 90’s…

Ladies struggling big time vs the West Indies. They just can’t find the boundary. It’s singles or dots.. after 9 overs, only 2 boundaries have been hit , both 4’s.

The Ireland Men’s ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier squad is:

Paul Stirling (Capt), Mark Adair, Ross Adair, Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Neil Rock, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White, Craig Young.

Irish girls 91/3 to 116 all out.. 🤯 looked certain for a score pushing 180/190. Then, collapse. Hayley Matthews taking a hattrick to decimate our middle order.

girls bowling way too many extras, wides in particular.

Was surprised not to see Balbirnie playing for his club yesterday in the All Ireland Semi at the Lawn.

Great win for Waringstown to make it to another final.

The captaincy curse impacting on Stirling!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,570 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Campher out 61. 149/5 with 8 balls left

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,570 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    158/8 in the end

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭wicorthered

158/8 against Italy with 42 year old journey man Berg taking 3/24. Realistically that's the level Ireland are at!

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,473 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

A seriously under par total given the opposition. Our bowlers will have to play out of their skin to defend that.

7 of our batsmen scored single figure contributions…. Can’t do much with that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭VillaMad

    Italy 20-2 after 3 overs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,570 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    3 down now for 41. 6 overs

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭VillaMad

2 quick wickets for Ireland with Ben White coming on after the powerplay and getting an LBW.

    Italy 41-4.
