Has anyone heard a real live (or dead) Banshee?

Seeing the theme of banshees has been popularised by the film Banshees of Inisherin, today Joe Duffy on Liveline is to interview people who claim to have heard the real deal. Have any Boardsies think they had a banshee experience?

Living where I do there are some very bizarre sounds with wind and ocean especially in storms that could be ..... And in deep rural some critters howl..

No as I'm not stupid enough to think a bit of wind is a Banshee, I have common sense

Owls and foxes can sound worse than any banshee might, especially silly the latter. Vixens make a blood curdling racket. Though I live in the Dublin suburbs my estate has a parkland area which has a fox population, and my nights are often disturbed by the most ghastly screeching that isn’t from my next door neighbour baying at the full moon from her balcony.

Yes indeed. But here it is the winds. orange and red warning gales. I have always thought that many legends have these origins. Esepcially given the depth of darkness in deep rural places.

The farmers will be a problem as with the white talied eagle, one recently found poisoned, A wolf ran across a narrow lane in front of me once.. A captive one that had escaped, and they run free on the Wild Life Reserve at Inishowen.

Bean Caoineadh's (Keening women) at funerals were a thing many years ago until the Catholic church stamped it out due to it's pagan origins. They were professional mourners who would wail and shriek at funerals. Keening is still practiced at traveller's funerals.

I heard a awful screech just before a neighbour across the river died . Though there were foxes nearby. I often heard that foxes can scream like that.

I know of somebody, passed now, who swore they saw one as a teenager in the fifties. Always enjoyed listening to the story as they told it with such incredible detail.

I thought the legend was she throws her comb, and if it hits you, you die, if it misses, somebody you know dies. She is both a beautiful young woman and a hideous old hag. I grew up in the Northside outskirts of Dublin, and the banshee was something everyone had heard stories about. It's a cool legend.
