I used 2 examples. One was where they walked in from Northern Ireland and then applied for asylum without documents. A popular route is to land in UK with documents and then enter EU.

Apparently and according to various media reports, use of the hotel for this purpose was only ever meant to be temporary (one year contract) and then any refugees would be moved on. It was never the plan that this would be a permanent thing in the area.

Their fear is misplaced. It doesn't matter if they have a passport or not, once they declare they are seeking international protection they can't be sent back. That seems to be the part you and many others aren't understanding.

I understand completely. So genuine asylum seekers and trafficked migrants and probably a few very serious criminals can be all placed in cramped rooms in small towns and villages for months and years why decisions are made. And people are told not to worry. What do they do just keep their fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Most undocumented are arriving by air, start there rather than flapping your arms in the air saying there is nothing we can do because a handful of cases are more difficult

If documentation used when boarding flight from the another airport cannot be verified then best scenario would be a holding centre, and definitely not a cozy one close to the airport until verified. Definitely 100%shouldn't be allowed to roam the country. What if they are a murderer or child molester or a rapist. Should we be willing to take these chances.

There is one flaw in your genius plan. Suppose Jimmy flies in from, say, France, but is not French and has no right to be there either. Upon arrival in Ireland, the immigration authorities will figure out that Jimmy has no right to be in Ireland, travelled from France, and send them back there. Upon arrival, the French will determine that Jimmy is after arriving to France without papers, has no right to be there, and that he flew there from Ireland and so will send him back to Ireland. And the cycle repeats indefinitely.

That is why you have to deport a person to a country that they can actually enter.

Why do you think France will let him in with no paperwork and no visa? The immigration officer just sees an "illegal" coming from Dublin. And in your model, the solution is to send the person back to where they came from.

In reality, when a person is being deported, the country to which they are being deported actually has to accept them. That can cause issues with the deportation process and would be one of the main motivations for people destroying their original documentation fraudulently.

If you have a visa, you get past the desk. Or if you have a right to travel there without a visa, you get past the desk. If there is some kind of visa waiver option, then you may or may not get past the desk. You don't get past the desk by saying "I was in there earlier and left me coat inside". It's not the same as trying to get into Coppers

Well nit just because of me, because the vast majority of people in Ireland want it. I haven't yet seen a massive ground swell in support for Irexit. Maybe those people in that Galway village should try and move to Russia where they'll feel more at home?
