Doubt it penalties are best way to go most of the time. I mean for Irelands second try it would have been an easy decision to go for 3 but ran it

Thanks wasn’t sure if it was him or not. He’s being more restrained/serious than he often can be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,316 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

That's a spectacular tackle from Porter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,631 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Why is POM not jumping at the front of a defensive lineout??????

Wales nearly turned us over after a lead like this in Cardiff before - the Zebo flick match. Not getting excited yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,407 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Andrew Porter what a hero holding that ball up

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,077 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

And this is why we need 100% for the whole game not saying Wales will win but points difference will go way down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 917 ✭✭✭whatawaster81

Incredible defence to hold that up. That's 2 certain tries stopped.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,799 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

So he's set for the maul defence, you loose momentum with 3 players if you put someone up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

You don't jump every time. Making an attempt to compete in a lineout wrecks your defensive maul. If the opposition goes for a maul the defender having jumped is usually worth 10 meters on average.

You pick your jumps for moments you think you have them figured out and think you can get a steal.

Hope we don't rue that Porter tackle

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,142 ✭✭✭fitz

Eh, you can't jump over a player, right? Surely that's the first infringement.

3 first half tries scored, Sexton kicking well, we look very sharp.

Ridiculous amounts of penalties given away by Wales, their ball carrying skills are sloppy all round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,316 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Sheehan should have kicked that out of play.

Few mistakes crept into our play in the final 10 minutes, but that's an excellent first half.

    Welsh crowd are horrible!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,631 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Gatland must be wondering if he should have stayed retired

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,851 ✭✭✭CMcsporty

Total capitulation by Wales here in the face of excellence

What has Gatland been doing with them since he took over?!!!!!?

no discipline. no fight. no organisation. no creativity. no patience.

wru have no choice but to get rid of Gatland and reinstate Pivac!!!

shambles of a team and a union

I hope Ireland tack up a record score on them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭swiwi_

In technical terms that is what you call a downtrou

    Ireland’s D is grade A!!!

It's Irelandb that have done this to them, it's not by their choice obviously

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,430 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

I said we'd embarrass them and we are.

Everyone on the Ireland side playing well. One or two individual errors but it hasn't broken anyone's stride

Penalty count 9-5? Wales seemed to have way more to me.

Unreal first half tho. James Ryan having a stormer. Ruck speed is phenomenal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,081 ✭✭✭blackcard

Very clinical performance by Ireland aided by penalties given away by Wales. However, brain dead by Murray kicking the ball away with 10 seconds of the half left, Sheehan also should have kicked the ball dead. Could have been costly

Murray has been playing very well. We were not set up for an attack there, he had to kick it because Dickson told him to use it

I don't think we could have realistically hoped for a better first half performance than that.

BBC showing the replay of the Wales opportunity where Lowe turned them over.

I hadn't realised that in our defensive phase Ringrose actually slipped, but rebalanced and still made the tackle on Biggar to stop his pass. That's utterly phenomenal.

Ireland have been pretty phenomenal so far. Wales can’t keep up with them. I’m not sure how bad Wales are or is just how good we have been.

Yeah ridiculously good, just all want and desire

    An irish player jumped.

Surely if your going to have someone jump at 1 its POM. I must watch it back. It was the lineout where porter ended up holding them up and stopping a try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,799 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

The point stands, they didn't want anyone jumping so they were set.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,915 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

Murray has been excellent, but that was poor management.

4 seconds left, he should have sweet a pod and kicked it off the field. A little bit of a brain fart from him, but allowed as he's been excellent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,316 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Wales threatened a few times so it's important that we get the first score of the second half to beat them down psychologically even more.

Keep the scoreboard ticking over and then go for the bonus point try when we're sure Wales can't regain any sort of momentum.

The half time commentary on both Virgin and BBC is triggering my superstition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,316 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

    Ringrose folded Biggar in half.

    Superb read and tackle.

    What a hit from Ringrose.

Penalty was soft, was held in and stopped from rolling away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,316 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Porter has given away a few silly penalties the last few minutes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭TomsOnTheRoof

Porter needs to cut out the crap. That's four penalties he's conceded now.

Porter has been a liability this half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,286 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

    Need to get porter off

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,142 ✭✭✭fitz

Incredibly harsh, Porter was already falling on Williams and there was nothing in it...ridiculous given how Wales have been reffed so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,536 ✭✭✭touts

Time to get Porter off before he gets sent off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,316 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Wales killed their own momentum there. Crooked throw and bad scrum now we're in their half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,744 ✭✭✭Bleating Lamb

In fairness to Wales that was excellent for the try.

For a team that has been completely outplayed this ref has been very keen on giving them soft decisions...cant help but feel that would have been let go if it wasnt for the total overreaction from the Welsh players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,600 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

I'm not a rugby person though I enjoy watching Ireland play but can someone tell me why Conor Murray keeps kicking the ball back to Wales please? I thought that when you had possession the other team couldn't score. Seems mad to keep giving them the ball.

Sure. But there were late hits on Sexton in the first half and ridiculous repeat infringements without even a warning. It's inconsistent.
