Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bought second hand car with issues

Friend of mine bought a 2008 1-4 diesel P209 for son only a few days ago and has stalled in 3rd gear with oil light on and dpf fault.

It has been back to him and another tester and no faults found.

No diesel smell from oil dipstick and the lad that sold it says we did the timing belt ?????

Very little or no marks on the timing belt cover or bolts but see a mark on fanbelt tensioner using an open ended spanner as they do.

When car stalls it has oil light on and dpf error

Oil warning is oil pressure warning please stop

Pull in and switch off it drives again.

Before car went to garage i ran my Autel scanner and loads of faults even got the BSI fault , engine management , abs steering issues.

I would assume car is unfit for purpose and have every right to return it for a refund.

Just need some others thoughts as under warranty and the person driving it on the motorway is now scared and does not want to drive it anymore.

Its a 15 year old car so whats covered in the warranty will be very limited. DPF certainly won’t be covered. Small claims court could be an option but you’ll have to give the dealer the chance to fix it first. And the process will take around 12 months I believe

    Private sale or dealer?

Dealer bought car , and knowing petrol models BSI meant money and might it be causing failure of engine ecu by losing power to other circuits ? Will it fix the oil pressure warning possibly not and requires an engine ?

The driver of vehicle needs it for a new job he is starting and cannot wait 12 months.

A car fit for its purpose to get to A - B without stopping in traffic and nearly causing an accident.

Everything they were told is crap when we cant find any faults with car and the owner and driver both now have my fault codes on their phones as proof.

Are there any Peugeot or Citroen mechanics on Boards that know these cars.

Ballpark price if a BSI has to be changed and do they need coding ?

If another engine is needed as what is a going rate ?

Then repairs might not be worth it with an unknown DPF

BSI change is about €300 to 400 inc labour.

New engine about €1,500, if you can find one. Labour could be €600 easily.

I don't think the engine is a terrible unit, but if all the ancillaries aren't perfectly maintained, then the whole thing becomes a domino alley of heartache. Plus the typical French electronics will be well into extra time by then.

If someone is thinking of buying a car that old, just buy a small Toyota or Honda petrol and change all the consumables on it to a good standard and it will outlast us all.

    These can be refurbished BTW.

But the guys give guidance on possible solutions.

Bring the car back to the dealer and then it's up to your friend and the dealer to decide between repair, replace and refund. Any repair should be permanent, so if they get the same issue it's replace or refund. A car should last more than a few days, the warranty is irrelevant.

Yes was reading of those common issues but are not on this car at this moment. Cheers.

How many places would have an oil pressure test kit to see if engine has a low pressure and mechanical wear.

Might the BSI be tied in to relay or such losing power to engine ECU and oil light having an electrical issue .

    Slightly confused

If the car stalls then the oil pressure light will come on anyway?

No the car loses power and is still in motion as in gear when the low pressure light comes on as pistons are still going up and down and pressure should be still there.

If at a traffic light and engine stalls then i expect all dash lights showing.
