Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi

Hoping someone may be able to answer a burning question for me !!

During a garda investigation where they are gathering evidence and statements is the offenders name made know to the victim?? Or are all parties identities kept private during the investigation.

    Many thanks .

The accused's name will be made known to the victim, and they will be kept up to date with the progress of the investigation (eg if someone has been arrested or charged) and the court dates.

    Thank you for reply.

Noting to stop them having a good chat with the villagers so!

It is my understanding that an adult caution is terminated after 6 years is that correct and has no bearing on the offenders life after receiving it .

A caution has no bearing on anything. It's basically just an official warning. It doesn't go on your record, only the Gardaí will know of it as it'll be on Pulse and the victim of the offence (if there was one) will be informed if you were given a caution. If a significant period of time has elapsed and you get into trouble again you may be offered a second caution (a friend of mine got two for different public order incidents, there was about a 5 or 6 year gap between them)

If you are convicted of a minor offence (generally anything in District Court) and it is your only offence then it will be cleared from your record in 7 years. There is currently a Bill going through the Oireachtas that may actually reduce that to two or three years though.
