Do I need a set top box for saorview / freesat or just the dish will suffice?

Hello,

I have a brand new LG TV, model OLED55C26LD (https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-oled55c26ld) which, according to the picutre below, has a built-in tuner.

Do I need a set top box for using saorview / freesat or just the dish wired to the telly will suffice? I would prefer not to have a set top box if I can avoid it.

You will need a satellite dish and either an indoor or outdoor aerial to pick up the saorview channels. No stb required but functionality will be limited regarding recording, epg etc.

The TV spec says I have EPG for 8 days. Limited recording can be sorted with a usb hdd, right?

For free to air satellite it'll work.

Anything needing a card would need a STB.

Yeah it will be possible but just the UI and capabilities are more limited than say what you would get on something like the Zgemma H7S. It would have a full EPG, you'd be able to sort the channel lists, series link etc.

Yeah, just move the coax cable from the satellite to the STB rather than the TV.

You can get Saorview/ Freesat on the tv, in set up put broadcasting to UK and in services put it to Ireland, that way you get Freesat, 8 day epg, auto updates and Saorview with 8 day epg, RTE &TG4 players. I read on here recently that there was some issue renumbering the Saorview channels, I didn't have that issue with 2021or 2022 models.
