Second hand car value of mileage opinions

I'm currently looking at a 4 year old car and have spotted two that look good so just want to get opinions on how much value you put on mileage.

One is 31K with 127000 kms on the clock (just 1 owner as well) while the other is 35K with only 67000 kms on the clock (and has had 2 owners).

All other things being equal, which would you go for? 4K seems like a big difference even if the mileage is almost double as 127000kms is still not that much these days, so I'm leaning towards this one currently.

Me personally I’d go for the higher mileage one, all other things being equal. Depending on the make and model it could be coming close to needing major maintenance work such as a timing belt or full service. So keep that in mind and see if its been done or if it can be negotiated into the price

Use the debate going on inside your head on both owners, 127000km guy, I am looking at the other car for only 3k more or so ''its got less mileage'' the opposite for the 67000km guy, see who will move.

127000 km is nothing major, 20 000 miles a year.

I like to sub in shoes for the object & ask which pair I’d want - the pair that’ve walked 1200km for €31 or the pair that’ve walked 600km for €35 😁

Best option is probably as said above, use the two cars played against each other with the owners & see what works out as the best deal.

The difference in mileage is 2 years driving for most people. No brainer for me.... The low mile car.

You will likely save on maintenance and in a few years time, the other car will be still worth alot less if you want to sell it.

When I was buying my Audi A6 in 2018 I had choice of a 141 S Line with plenty of very extras and low mileage for a 4 year old, 36000kms and a 161 SE with high mileage for a 2 year old, 98000kms.

    Both the same price.

In the end, the spec and low mileage won out for me over a newer reg plate and that's what was important to me. Got all my money less 4k back for it in 2022 after putting 100k kms on it myself which made it a great buy for me in the end, it was one of the lowest mileage for its age at the time.

Are the 2 cars identical spec also, that could be a tie breaker for you if you need one.

Thanks all, good to get the different views. In the end I went with the low mileage car.
