Entirely appropriate for a character stabbed through the heart though.

Kinda mixed reception to this episode for me. Decent action, good to see Worf again . But the entire episode felt like "running on the spot". It didn't really advance the story in any meaningful way and that would have me concerned for the rest of this season. Things like mystery elements being needlessly dragged out - eg jack's identity which they would have surely verified in sickbay even just to confirm that he's Beverly's son, Vadik giving them a ridiculously long deadline to hand over crusher (which serves no purpose other than to just eat up the episode runtime).

The episode ends in pretty much the same place that ep 1 finished - Picard & Riker are still facing off against the much larger alien ship only now they're back aboard the Titan instead of the Elios. But the Titan is so hopelessly outgunned that swapping it for the Elios doesn't really change anything.

If this really is old school Trek they will need to do "the something maneuver" to escape.

My bets on LaForge or Shaw.

Maybe Shaw's could be some sort of violent thrust, that would lead to his redemption from a viewer perspective. A Shaw-shank redemption if you will.

He missed one. The Mariposa clinic was itself an Easter egg to the Mariposa colony of clones that took in the Bringlodi in Up the Racist Ladder😝
