Looking at Tallaght just above 100m height most of the models wont drop temperature where they were even this morning. So any settling snow will have like 4-5hr Window lets say 1-5AM at temperatures around 0-0.5°C that equals slushy mix of 2-3cm. Base is not Frozen so it will be rubish mess.

Arrived at house in Longford a short while ago. Moderate blowing snow and temperature is falling away now @100m ASL with hints of snow beginning to stick in areas sheltered from the wind.

Snow has turned back into ice pellets here in north Clare

I was thinking that It will start to stick towards the tail end of it. Typical! If all that has fallen since 9 am this morning stuck we'd have 10 cm or more by now.

There should be enough cooling of the boundary layer from 6 p.m. to midnight in the currently mixed precip zone to turn most of it over to snow, whether it accumulates on the ground remains a mystery, no doubt some higher spots are already under 5-10 cm and will increase to near 15 cm, other places now with slush on the grass will see 3-6 cm and places with a cold rain now will go into the slushy grass scenario later. I don't foresee sudden drops in temperature, just a very gradual decrease from values like 1-2 C now to -1 or -2 after midnight. It probably won't drop much below -0.4 C rounding to zero at DubA or along the Leinster coastline. Winds more northerly than northeasterly so limited potential for embedded snow bands or on the other hand not much mild advection after winds begin to shift northerly.

The orange warnings are of course to cover all parts of various counties and will be justified in those parts but not necessarily all parts. This could be out to lunch but I would imagine disruption around metro Dublin region will vary from little or none in the city centre and coast, to slight in some close suburbs, to considerable a bit further out, and that disruption may be more from icy roads than from lying snow in some cases. Further inland in Leinster there will be a more noticeable temperature drop and a greater potential for 2-5 cm snow to accumulate after midnight, probably ending by 0400h west and 0600h in Kildare. The morning commute is likely to be a slow go but the way this has played out, very hit or miss and the inland west got the heavier snow cover (so far) although I would imagine there is equal snow cover on some higher ground in Connacht. Knock was -0.4 C and Claremorris was 1 C recent obs, as we all know, -0.4 C is ideal for snow accumulation and 1 C is marginal at best.

But anyway, all trends should be towards more cold and more snow and even Cork could end up with a coating later tonight although I don't expect it to be disruptive there as ground has been warmed all day.

Interesting and complex event for sure.

Yes and roads will be bad in the morning.

But whatever about schools, I think you'll be able to go to work if you make the effort.

Whiteout here in Mid Tipperary until around 1pm then a gradual thaw set in. Roughly half the snow has melted by now. I was expecting counties further north to do much better, but from what I can gather, Clare and Galway did best, followed by Limerick and Tipperary and the southern part of Laois and heavy snow in Mayo now this evening, many counties further North a poor effort..they should be doing better you’d imagine…they may do better this evening, interesting evening ahead. Even parts of Kerry had more snow than counties in the North midlands and North so far

    Clare (410ft asl)

Very little in Quin. There was 2cm lying snow this morning but most of it has thawed since. Cold rain/sleet there all day since but it will turn to snow on the backend of the system in the next hour.

Had to take the coat off today in Cork. Airport says 10 degrees but felt more like about 15 in town.
