New Zealand now requiring that Maori "ways of knowing" have equal status to actual science in science class. Let me repeat...in SCIENCE class.

Reason being that "Western" science is somehow oppressive because it was discovered by white men. Something about patriarchy, oppression and colonialism, you know their usual brainwashed nonsense.

The left are not doing themselves any favours here. Wonder does Holly Cairns agree with this?

I’m not sure it’s for the reasons the OP suggests but rather the fact it does overlap with the scientific method and has significant cultural impact on New Zealand - sort of like teaching Gaelic in Ireland, but for older (yet sound apparently) ways of teaching science

We may well have different ideas of what constitutes woke, but Dawkins performative nonsense and overwrought hand-wringing in Spectator magazine about some shìt going on in New Zealand that nobody would previously have been aware of, is pretty much the definition of woke, ie - to be woke is to be conscious of all sorts of perceived social injustices, and to raise people’s consciousness of those issues.

I can't see any issue with attempting to synchronise cultural differences in Scientific understanding. I would imagine it to be invaluable to NZ scientists to gain exposure to how Maori Scientists have perceived or interpreted local science.

It is a great idea.
