United Airlines - Basic economy

Hi all,

Might be a dumb question but flying Dublin to NY next week. First time traveling to USA and flying with United Airlines.

May be a silly question but can you carry a carry on suitcase (overhead locker) and also a small backpack (under seat) on the basic economy UA fair. Not sure of the difference between it and economy. I am going for 5 days so not keen on paying 70 odd for a checked bag each way. I could probably get by with the small carry on suitcase for that timeframe.

Just my first time travelling this far by myself and a bit stupid when it comes to these things.

Check your booking. Some basic economy fares wouldn't let you bring a wheeled carry on case.

Yeah it doesn't seem to explicitly say on my booking which is what is confusing me so thought I'd see if anyone here flew it to states. I presume I can based on this link though:

Scroll down on your link it says personal item with a picture of a backpack and it says carry-on with a picture of a wheelie suitcase.

Both pictures have measurements and it specifies carry-on is available in basic economy if you flying certain routes including across the Atlantic.

Ok thanks presume that means I am good to take a carry on suitcase and a backpack.

Once it meets the size requirements on the link you provided I don’t see why not.
