Replacement battery taking ages to charge

Original battery in my Redmi Note 4 had been dropping charge very quickly when in use and was heating, so I've replaced the battery. The new battery is incredibly slow to charge. I've checked and it is the correct battery model etc. Is there anything I can do to check that I've not been given a dud replacement battery or…
