I got 3 months free Apple TV with a new Mac I purchased. It looks like you have to buy or rent most movies so I can't see why I would subscribe to it after 3 months or am I missing something ?

Apple TV is similar to Prime video, there's plenty of free stuff on there but unlike Netflix, there are plenty of titles which you need to purchase or rent also.
