    Mutilate:

"to injure, disfigure, or make imperfect by removing or irreparably damaging parts"

Yes, children are being mutilated in the name of "gender affirming care".

Yeah, yeah - I know what it means, that's not what I needed clarification of.

I just want you to confirm that you actually think people are injuring, disfiguring and/or removing parts of children's bodies? Can you please tell me exactly and specifcially what makes you think this is happening?

Becasue either I've misundetrstood you, or we're honestly in pizzagate territory here.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The dangers will come from disgruntled Ulster Unionists when Irish reunification happens in the future under Sinn Fein, who look to soon take the majority in both Stormont and the Dail. The UVF and UDA will be targeting and bombing Dublin, instead of Belfast during the Troubles.

This probably should be on the 'dangers coming from the Right' thread.

He was making a solid point.

The far-left want us to go down a post modern deconstruction where the meaning of words is diluted to the point where they become meaningless. That way, they can crowbar their own ideology into the picture.

That politician showed that the far-lefts position is inconsistent, illogical, and hypocritical.

Yeah but the problem here is that ultimately both manifestations of extreme violence by Left and Right ultimately came down to the concept of 'othering'. You create 'others' within the State, you alienate them, you eliminate them. The Far Right often seeks to other minorities — who they seem to see as undesirables who dilute national unity and sponge off the natives — while the Far Left seeks to other people along class lines, who they see as the fair-game enemies of working people.

Ultimately, this is what unites them. Emnification. The Far Left and Far Right do not rely on reason — they want radical action and see the creation of enemies as the best means of radicalising. They both feed off ignorance because they see whipping people into frenzies as quicker and more effective than what they see as the slow lumbering process of collaborative democracy and intellectualism. They are one and the same.

... which is exactly the point of the mutilating children/pizzagate accusatrions.

I always find this to be an interesting point of conversation when the genital mutilation of male babies (circumcision) barely attracts a whimper from conservative types. Take the American conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, who was presumably circumcised at birth — a result of the Jewish faith of his parents. He was not given a choice in whether his penis should be mutilated. Yet he will stand up and lecture others on genital mutilation being perpetrated by the Left?

A male baby's penis can be mutilated quite freely here in Ireland — yet conservative types have very little to say about it. The fact that it stems from a Judeo-Christian tradition based off ancient writings obviously has absolutely nothing to do with that whatsoever because right-leaning conservatives only deal in facts and logic, not fairy stories, and it's the blue haired Lefties who are the eccentrics.

Was it the far left that gave us the terms, "Fake news" or "alternative facts"?

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

The far left do not target people along class lines, because they mostly come from the upper classes, they target their politcal opponents. Always

There was no fake news in communist dictatorships, begob.

No, but they gave us the words cancel, censor, and bigot in overwhelming abundance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,841 ✭✭✭TomTomTim

Yes. "Fake news" was literally a term used by them at first, it was simply flipped and used against them. Now that they can't use it anymore, they use terms like "disinformation" instead.

A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

The Far Left in Ireland have been moaning about the Irish Times, RTE, the Indo etc. being tools of the establishment

One thing I'd agree with them on 😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,697 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Who talks about "cancel culture" more? I believe you'll find it's the right wingers that want to say whatever they want about anyone regardless of the truth of it or not.

Censor? When you have a republican party that has censored what kids can read in school, trying to stop drag shows etc, you have to be having a laugh? Have you an example of a left governor censoring to the same extent as DeSantis has, for example?

Bigot, they definitely may use that in overwhelming abundance, and more often than not, for good reasons.

Every child throughout the history of man has been "censored", and they always should be. This is what they were talking about when they spoke of abusing langue. Children by their very nature need restrictions otherwise they won't develop properly. The fact that the left gets so worked up about kids not being able to watch borderline pornographic material is honestly bizarre.

Drag shows for children is abusive to begin with.

It's like talking about burlesque shows for children.

The far-left would rightly condemn burlesque shows for children but have no problem whatsoever with drag shows for children.

And yes, the comparison is valid because both types of show are considered adult entertainment.

And just like we wouldn't water down a burlesque show for a child, we shouldn't argue for the same when it comes to drag shows for kids.

It's astonishing that something so morally obvious needs to be stated.

So the upper classes are looing for a classless, moneyless society...??

How does telling lies and spreading false propoganda help? It looks like you're tyting to start fights at this point in order to fuel the wars in the same way Goebbels did in the 30s.

That's because drag and burlesque aren't quiet the same thing. There's an overlap - yes - but that's about it.

That said, I think they kinda show themselves in the foot with the name. If they'd called it panto story time, with the same people in the same costumes, you wouldn't have had a problem with it.

Why would they do that when it's not accurate? There's many examples of these events having sexualized content. Not all of them are like that of course, but you're purposely pretending that they are all child friendly events.

How can you say that's what I'm defending when I haven't seen it ?

Again this is my point: you're trying to attack me by claiming I support a specific event which I know nothing about in an attempt to portray ME as the enemy and YOU as the victim, an in effect fuel the culture wars.

Maybe - I'll be the first to admit I haven't seen every single story hour - but would you be the second?

I'd also happily call it out if it was over sexual (I've only been to one and that was definitely not sexual - it was an ugly sister doing Cinderella, but with a better emphais on coperation between the three of them) - but this is what I mean by 'shot themselves in foot' - they could easily have done pantomime costumes with the same story and message and been fine.

Toddlers don't see any sexual elements - they don't even know what sex is - so why sexualise it in the first place? It just totally destroys the point.

Well, on the one hand you're saying that drag shows for kids are fine because "right wingers wouldn't mind if it was called panto", and yet when I show you an actual, real-life example of a drag show for kids, you don't want to even address the issue (saying, "I haven't seen it").

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,365 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

But is that represetative? If I showed you a picture of a Maureen Potter pantomime and said "this is what you're scared of!" would that be fair? Of course not!

Yeah I've seen a few that were a bit OTT but they weren't even story time (can't view your link because I'm at work, to say or not.

Perhaps I should have written "if some of them had called it...." but I honeslty didn't think you wouldn't try and sow more argumentative seeds. Asking me "do you support this?" would have been better than accusing me.

Can you accept that sometimes a guy in a dress telling kids stories is just a guy in a dress telling kids stories?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

No, because from what I've seen, many aren't wearing "costumes" but are instead wearing sexual fetish gear.

And I've seen many clips of those with costumes throwing up their skirt whilst saying sexualised words, such as the clip I posted above.

Then of course the many clips of children handing cash tips to performers during these events.

Look, once you introduce drag shows for kids (a form of adult entertainment diluted for children), you cannot be surprised that this is being exploited by some drag artists who are still introducing sexual elements to their performance.

The far-left seem only to support this madness because it angers even the moderate right.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,365 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

Everything is fetish gear to somone. Is a man in pantomime drag fetish? Is pantomime fetish? Anyway, I'm not sure kids have fetishes.

You say "from what I've seen...." - have you atually been to a pantomime, or is this the limit of you're experience?

I noticed your now saying drag "shows" and not drag "story time" so taking a step back here, I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing.

Back to the post-modern - let's question everything, reduce the meaning of words to nothing, and equivocate over what we're really talking about.

I'm not pursuing this line of debate any further with you.

It's not the slightest bit "post modern" and you know it. Shame, because I was really trying to dissuade your fears with some innocent examples, but if you're not open, you're not open.

Again, the dangers come from ignorance (not saying you are, but your unwillingness to to at lesat be open, is)

Anyway, I leave you here, so.
