BBC HD Switchover - Freeview Play

The BBC had begun a HD only switchover for UK Terrestrial TV viewers this year.

If you live in the Rep. of Ireland who somehow manages to get a Freeview signal from a Freeview Play TV or STB that includes Channel List Management or CLM contained in your Freeview Play device.

This switchover would apply to you.

There are 5 macro regions from England that will go HD first during this switchover.

    1. London.

    2. West and South West. (Bristol)

    3. East, South East, and South. (Tunbridge Wells)

    4. East Midlands and West Midlands. (Birmingham)

    5. North West, Yorks & N Midlands, Lincs & E Yorks, and NE & Cumbria. (Salford or Leeds?)

The CLM process takes the BBC One regional station and so on up to the top of your Freeview Play channel list.

There are more details here about how that works.

I would take a guess that BBC One & Two from the UK nations like NI, Wales and Scotland already have the HD version of the channel from 801 onwards in the Rep. of Ireland ?

In an update to my OP; the BBC are to begin their HD switchover in the following regions on Wednesday the 22nd of March.

    East Midlands

    West Midlands

    Yorkshire & Lincolnshire

    London

    Channel Islands

    Yorkshire

It says here that no retune will be required to receive these stations on your Freeview device. However; it may not change your Freeview channel list while in The Republic of Ireland.

"The BBC had begun a HD only switchover for UK Terrestrial TV viewers this year."

Probably worth clarifying here that this does not mean that the BBC is moving to HD only distribution for its TV channels on DTT in the UK. Instead it simply means that for viewers of BBC 1 HD receiving from an English based transmitter they will be able to watch their regional news & any other associated content on HD on Freeview (LCN 101) without having to switch over to the SD channel version. This is being carried out as part of a new plan to update the feeds on the PSB3 (BBCB) Multiplex in the UK which should also see more ITV regions also get their local programming in HD on LCN 103.

It's very unlikely this should affect anyone in the Republic making use of Freeview spillover coverage, as for both Northern Ireland and Wales such regional upgrades to HD for BBC 1 NI & Wales as well as UTV & ITV Wales have been in place for some time.

The SD DTT services for the above services will still remain for the foreseeable future.
