I have a private insurance policy already and want to buy a commercial jeep and use it on private tax and insurance …

it has a full years doe I’m just wondering do I need to swap it over to an nct or does the jeep stay getting doe’s regardless of insurance / tax class

Your insurance company may have an issue here. It's a commercial so they wont insure it privately. And before and of the usual crowd say "don't tell the insurer" they can see it from the reg. AXA will tell you this.

Insurance is a lot about the use. If its taxed privately the insurers will see this and should be able to offer standard insurance.

Even if it was insured commercially, class 1 would most likely apply and the loading is very small. That would be driver using it for his/her business but not carrying samples or goods for delivery to customers.

It does require annual CVRT test https://cvrt.ie/en/Test-Bookings/Pages/Vans-and-Jeeps.aspx

You probably have your own reasons for this but there's so many reasons not to go down this rabbit hole. Road tax min €1200, only one passenger seat, load space in a jeep is useless but you'll have pulling power. CVRT is twice the cost of an NCT. For the expense involved I think you're not getting value. Maybe a passenger jeep would be more practical or even something like a passenger 4x4 Duster or X Trail.
