Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Finished in Q2... why not give a bloody date

I'll be finished any time in a near 100 day window.

Absolute ball locks and shows a complete lack of guidance. Why do projects get to give such open ended opening dates and why isn't it stopped. Something being late is fair enough, things can happen. However a Q2 opening declared late is like 100 days late and a major pissoff for anyone who's sick of looking at the claregalways and adares of this world when they assumed some light at the end of the tunnel.

Because life isn’t simple, and if projects gave an exact date to the public, people online would be complaining if it was one minute beyond that.

Given that some people will be annoyed either way, the best thing to do is say “f_ck them”, and publicise a date that will give you plenty of time to do the job properly. The road will be used for decades, and it’s way more important to make sure that everything is correct, and safe, than to meet some specific opening date - “we didn’t get to finish the checks because we said we’d open in March” won’t wash at an inquest.

It will be July 19th. Happy?

A project isn't finished until the client accepts handover. Even if the contractor claims everything is complete, it may not be so to the satisfaction of the client. It is impossible to know in advance if the client will accept handover on a particular date several months out. There could be any number of snags which the client may demand the contractor rectify before they'll accept.

That would make sense but when you say "finished in Q2" that gives an automatic deadline of June 30 so they still are kind of held to a deadline of sorts. Pushing out a specific date a week or 2 is much more acceptable than the optimism of thinking maybe theyll finish in early Q2. In reality they almost never finish the thing early causing false hope and deep dissapointment.

I get the "ah fukc em" attitude but same company is going to be competing for the next big lucrative contract and people remember.

"You can't be that precise" but July 19th it is, to coincide with when "Galway liberated from Indians, Marathon became Snickers and Ice Age ends."
