Possible to get an I5 laptop for around 500 or less ?

Lenovo use to do great prices a few years back on their website but things have changed a bit since. I'd like an i5 for some video editing. Any ideas?

processor and other charges have meant prices have gone up and each one has been more powerful . for video editing most people would use an n vidia card these days

Very plasticy looking build but ye it does have the spec if not very premium looking. I bet that display is abit crap on it. But one cannot expect too much for €549

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 has more aluminum in the body and it's lighter but definitely seems more expensive than the Aspire 5.

Also not all i5's are the same.

The i5 in that link, the 1235U, is a low TDP processor, not designed to run anything close to full tilt for sustained periods.

So for editing, a laptop with one of the "proper" i5's would make more sense, as they are designed to run at boosted clocks for longer periods of time.

Eg the base clock of the 1235U is 1.3Ghz but a normal i5 would be double that, and the normal i5 would maintain boost clocks far longer. Basically your 1235U is likely to flucuate a lot, right down to 1.3hz, whereas the normal i5 will run happily at 3.5-4ghz all the time.

A cheap gaming laptop with an Nvidia card + normal i5 is probably more what you're looking at.

Obviously you can get ultrabooks with better thermals but that's not going to come cheap, hence the above option.

Yes i did mention Nvidia card but the Budget was not going to get that - even though it a lower power one its ranks better than older gen h i5s

if it’s not possible to add more ram I would steer clear. 4gb is not enough these days. 8gb minimum.

Also not going to be the best for video editing given it's 1ghz base clock.

Great laptop for the price no doubt though, just maybe not for your usages if you can afford better.

Eg this seems very solid for 499, great CPU.

Would you not get hit with customs charges buying from laptopsdirect since Brexit? They're based in the UK as far as I know. I bought stuff off them years ago and was quite happy with what I got but that was pre-Brxit. Currently in the market for a student laptop and was looking at their stie but I've got burned before buying stuff from .ie domains which delivered from UK.
