A family member is sick and needs a private scan, but can't afford it. We will be paying for the scan. There could be more than one scan needed too, so bills could add up. As we're paying for it, can we include it in our health expenses and claim 20% back on this at year end?

Per Revenue site....You can claim relief on the cost of health expenses. These can be your own health expenses, those of a family member or any individual’s, as long as you paid for them.

Just make sure the receipt is in your name, it can also state who had the treatment

Yes.But keep all receipts for 6 years as per Revenue rules
