Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Could BestDrive (formerly Advance Pitstop) repair a broken/cut Coil spring/Torsion Bar?

    Hi everyone.

My Car failed the NCT. The problem was two broken/cut rear Coil spring/Torsion bar. I have to do a retest, specifically a repeat of the Suspension Test. I called the mechanic I normally get to service the car but he does not have any capacity to do the work anytime soon because he is down a mechanic and is fully booked with work for weeks.

I was wondering is this the kind of repair that BestDrive (formerly Advance Pitstop) could do? I will also try ringing around other local garages, but am worried I will have the same problem with small garages being too busy. I'd like to get it fixed ASAP so I can schedule a retest and I thought BestDrive might have more capacity than smaller garages.

    Thanks.

Not meaning to sound rude, but just call them and ask. I believe they do do suspension work, but best to call ahead and check.

That is a fair point. I will ring them, but what I was wondering is, even if they will do it, what is the opinion of people here as to how likely they are to do a decent job. I've only ever used them for tires so not sure what they are like quality wise for other types of work.

Sorry, should have worded the original post better.

Although these big chains of mechanics tend to get a bad rep, I’d imagine for things like springs, shocks, breaks, etc. they are just as good as anyone else

For the benefit of others: BestDrive can do this repair. They won't be able to give me a proper quote until tomorrow when they put it through their quote system, but person I talked to estimated it would be in the €300 - €350 range. I was a little surprised it is that high, I was think maybe a range €100 less than that. Is there anyone here who would have an idea if €300 - €350 is a fair price or is higher than you would expect? Thanks.

You want a garage to take off two old springs and replace them with new ones for 100e?

    No, I thought the range might be €200 - €250 rather than €300 - €350

I thought springs don’t have to replaced in pairs? I paid €40 labour last week for the same job on a Corsa. Now this was from a cash only mechanics, using one second hand spring that I supplied myself for €20. So €60 all in. Apples and oranges really. But I would have thought that a fair retail price might be around €60 to €80 for a new spring and maybe €60 to €80 to fit it? This will most likely increase if you are driving a bigger or more expensive car
