Civil Service - Being called for an interview for a CS competition having just started

Hi all!

Not sure where to post it as there are multiple threads on different competitions and thought to open a new one specifically for this question:

Imagine you have just got a role in the CS through a competition and once you're starting you're through another competition. Potentially the role in this ongoing process would be in a different department but more interesting to you and your career background but at the same level.

If they take you in that second competition while on probation and you decide to accept it, would the probation period start to count from zero? Or would it count the time you were in the first role (it was at the same level)?

A bit confused and would like some clarification.

Usually it would start again. The probation period is specific to the role, not the employee. You could be perfectly suitable in your current role, while not cutting the mustard in the new one, if you get me?

Thanks! but once you have passed your probation, then changing to another department through mobility within the same level wouldn't imply coming back to probation right?

In most circumstances, yes. But there are some cases where you could move to a different role at the same level and have to redo your probation in the new role.
