Probation in the Civil Service

Is it unusual for people to be let go during the probation period? I'm in a fairly safe private sector job so I'm a bit nervous of making the move to civil service with a probable recession in the next year.

Yeah. Show up and you'll be fine. Very hard to get rid of someone.

As long as you don't punch anyone you'll be fine.

You don't have to be good at your job even. If you are rated by your manager as being a satisfactory employee you are kept on.

It's fine for most Departments unless you commit serious misconduct. There are a few exceptions, Revenue for example can be tougher.

One issue I've seen people fail on is clock keeping.

Manage your time, keep your head down .
