A question lads, at the start of each race - the medical car that drives behind the cars as the lights go out - how far does it go? End of the first straight and then pulls off somewhere or into the pits maybe?

Looking forward to Silverstone next week, another proper fast track.

I am pretty sure it follows around for the first lap until it then pulls into the pits at that first opportunity.

For those that infringed on the track limits a lot (looking at you Yuki), is there a chance of penalty points?

Oh also, I saw on twitter that the top 3 are unaffected by the pending penalties for track limits, so it's further down the track. Aston Martin issued an appeal, so I'm guessing they're expecting either Lando or Gasly to get pinged (would move Alonso or Stroll up a position)

Couldn't anyone effected say they that didn't get due process and a black and white flag warning? The precedence is 3 strikes, black and white flag, then penalty. Unless it happened on the last few laps or something?

If the rules say stay within the white lines, then stay within the white lines. Most racers didn't have an issue. But they do need to do something better going forward, a race that has the results issued 5ish hours later is not good for the sport.

Re-profile kerb so that it makes staying on the power difficult to get the car back on track. Or else, no kerb and just a gravel edge. There won't be any drivers going out side then.

The issue is that gravel traps dont work for MotoGP. So they need to find a solution that works for both series.

I suppose this is one time I don’t mind a post race penalty/new race classification. The cars are perfectly capable of staying within the white lines and there’s only so much the stewards can look at penalising live.

As much as the drivers like to bitch and moan about track limits, it’s a good precedent to set. Stay in the white lines or you will eventually get penalised. It’s far better than the wishy washy half implementation of track limits from a couple of years ago.

Change it so its a warning for first offence, drive through penalty for second offence, 10 second stop and go for third offence, and disqualified from the entire event (all points from both sprint and race gone) for fourth offence.

The track itself is perfectly fine, and produced excellent racing today. The best drivers in the world should be well capable of staying inside a white line...

Surely f1 isn't beyond making specific kerb detailing for f1. Give motogp their layout and perhaps use proper bolt down kerbs that f1 cars won't like somewhere inside the motogp track limit and then forget about this nonsense of watching lines for faults.

Could a gravel trap with a removable roof work? Basically for motogp it's plain run-off, then for f1 they remove the roof, fill the area with gravel and it's a gravel trap? The track has enough money to do this...

Or, just stay within the lines...

These guys claim to be the best in the world at what they do, surely it's not beyond them to stay on track. They prove at Monaco, Singapore etc. that they can control the car to within mm of the barrier without touching it, surely they can keep within the lines. The fact it happened so often is probably reflective that they thought they could get away with it, even with penalties being handed out on track.

It's simple. The sensors already pick up when a car is outside track limits. So they have the technology. Introduce long laps like in bike racing. Have an on board light system like 3 ambers turn red so long lap penalty. Have the long lap section long enough that it's not worth taking risks with track limits, maybe 10 seconds....after all in the old days if you exceeded track limits you probably lost a lot more than a few seconds. Long lap sections are relatively easy to build or the could introduce pit lane drive throughs. Would be all in real time so no post race messing either
