Twyfords toilet seat

The toilet seat undercoat (white) and top coat (Camellia pink) is peeling off the toilet seat. I have been unable to source a replacement at a reasonable cost (£350 from UK or £200 plus for plain white which have to be specially made)

The distance between the plastic fixing bolts centres is 9 inches which is much wider than modern toilet seats which do not fit. It is not possible to drill new holes.

How can I remove the top coat and white primer from the seat? I would be happy with the pink seat underneath which matches the colour also.

Did you try a modern seat with this style of fitting ? https://www.amazon.co.uk/WHYFONE-Release-Cleaning-Adjustable-Standard/dp/B0BVFMQD7K/ . I've used one and they aren't perfect but can be made to fit the spacings you have.

Maybe get a cheap one of those (I'm sure you can find them cheaper than my link) and respray it. Might be a better job than respraying the original?

It might sound a bit unorthodox but if you took the toilet seat to somewhere that has a hot power washer (like a carwash) it might just remove the paint coating without damaging the plastic seat. Or you could try a domestic steamer if you had one.
