Hi all, our poor little cat Luna is currently in ICU in UCD pet hospital with low blood platelets and anaemia following an operation elsewhere. UCD said she may need a blood transfusion and asked if anyone in the Dublin area with a healthy cat would be willing to offer to give blood if needed. We would be forever grateful if anyone with a suitable cat would consider this.

Cats need to fulfil the criteria below:

    • between 1 and 8 years old
    • healthy and not on meds
    • over 4 kg
    • have no travel history outside the UK & Ireland
    • have never received a blood transfusion
    • be up to date on vaccination and worming
    • have a good temperament

Cat blood cannot be stored so even if our cat does not need a transfusion, others may do in the future so please consider putting your cat down as a potential donor. you could save a life.

Further details on cat donations can be found here: https://www.ucd.ie/vthweb/informationforowners/smallanimalowners/blooddonorclinic/

Hi, many thanks for the offer, she’s now out of danger although not fully back to health. You can still help by calling UCD pet hospital and putting your cats name on the volunteer list. Your cat gets a round of free blood tests (not sure the cat will see this as a great advantage :-) ) and they themselves will get free blood should they ever need them.
