Cost of fixing an old house

    Apologies if i posted this twice

    So we recently went sale agreed on a house it needs some work, and after the survey was complete i was informed of what i would need to do, a good bit of work but nothing crazy mainly the roof. then i got a builder in and he gave me his quote, lets just say i got a bit of a fright, have a look, what do you reckon he seemed like he knew what he was on about and more or less said the surveyor didn't know what he was talking about which may be correct. see list below.

    Any suggestions on how to cut costs cheers.

    I got as far as "skips, insurance and scaffold" 15,000 and stopped. I'd be ringing as many builders as I could find for quotes.

    thanks for responding Rows, yea i thought that was taking the piss some of the other works looks reasonable then he has budget allowance 115716 ,

    heat pump 22000 etc.

    Hi. Seeing your initial comment now. I don’t believe some of those costs listed are unreasonable, given current trends. I would get alternative quotes to measure against.

    im in a similar situation to yourself with an old house and looking at option to renovate and retrofit. It can be messy. Any chance you are willing to share the details of that particular builder? I’m assuming you’re Dublin based?

    Have you a design or a schedule of works or are you just talking the builder through what you want?

    Your thread starts like you're looking to address a few survey items but then evolves into an extension and retrofit. We can't really assess the quote without any details...

    How big is the house before we can judge any quote. Is it a bungalow or multi storey?
