iPhone apps regularly downloading in the last week

Recently apps that I use regularly suck as WhatsApp, google maps, Reddit Ring, have to download/update before I can use them. Why is this? I could go months before without updating them? iphone 11, iOS 15.6.1 Any ideas?

Pure speculation on my part, but developers could be building in required changes to support iOS 17 that is currently in Developer/Public Beta testing, and is likely due to be properly released in September.
