Records wise it's probably not even in the top 5 within athletics of least likely to be beaten imo.

The three jump records in particular are going to be tough to beat. Javelin record will also be tough.

Women's side of course has a good few dubious records that should be wiped tbf. No one even considers some of them to be credible.

I disageee. Only because it’s a short distance folks may feel it’s more beatable. He ran pure speed/power perfection. I watched Blake’s fastest ever run and he looked like he ran 9.4, but it was still 1/10 slower than Bolt

I dunno, like the eastern European and Chinese 80/90s records are unlikely to be beaten anytime soon, and no one has gotten anywhere close to Powell's record in the long jump and only Barshim has gotten close to Sotomayor in the high jump. Edwards' triple jump record has gotten a bit closer but still a good bit off considering the length.

Hammer and Discus on the men's side are miles off now compared to the world record.

You reckon? I don't know, it's a tough record. The 3000 is still run annually at a few Diamond League meets a year, and the closest anyone non-Chinese has got to it outdoors is Sifan Hassan's 8:18 at Eugene 2019. I think Kipyegon or Tsegay could run 8:11/12, but inside 8:06?

I reckon nobody tries to break that record because it would surely attract some unwanted questions.

It is a helluva record alright, but with proper race conditions and pacing I think Kipyegon definitely has the speed and stamina to get very close. It’s just not a race that is run that much. I was checking top 25 times and didn’t realise the gap between the record and some other times from elites.

so difficult to say what record the best/toughest. But 10:49 still looks to me to be the toughest ask.

EL G 3:26 is also a real monster.

Sonia O’Sullivan was up early this morning co-commentating on the women’s marathon this morning. I enjoyed it. Moroccan getting bronze was incredible. Sad no Irish ladies were in the race. Only one Brit too. The standards are so high.

Loved to see Sullivan the primary school teacher from the US leading at the start of the race.

Just watching the women's marathon on repeat, that was some race from Gardadi to take the bronze! Worked her way up the pack, hung on and then made her move. Not nice to see Yehualaw fall over the line, but that's marathon running for you. So intriguing to watch.

Hassan still gave herself a bit too much work to do on the penultimate lap but she was on Kipyegon's shoulder at the bell. Either way, I don't think she was ever beating Kipyegon in her current fitness, so silver is a super result. Just a shame she doesn't have a 10k gold/silver to go with her haul.

Happy for Chebet to get on the podium too, but I'm wondering what the hell happened to Tsegay.

Amazing run by all four Irish women. They truly performed out of their skins. Sophie Becker ran 51.6x out of the blocks; followed by a very solid 52 flat leg by Roisin Harrison. Kelly McGrory is a high 56 / low 57 400m hurdler. She just ran a 52.4x leg. Amazing, amazing effort from her.

Lastly, Sharlene Mawdsley ran a 50 flat anchor leg. Her fastest split all week. That girl has single-handedly dragged Ireland into two global relay finals this week. Simply fantastic effort. Whilst Ciara Mageean delivered the Irish individual performance of the meet, Sharlene Mawdsley is surely the MVP for the Irish team.

I just caught the virgin media interview with the team. Frankly, it wasn’t just Mawdsley who made some slightly veiled comments about an absent team member. The statements about loving competing together and being proud to represent Ireland were definitely conveying a message.

In fairness to her, she has more in common with the sprinters she'll be mixing with in the USA. I've seen her interviews with the USA media and she looks like she's loving it over there and mixing really well. Ireland puts nothing into their athletics other than a greeting after you win, there's no incentive if you're any good other than the thoughts of a scholarship. I dont think we'll be seeing much of her other than internationals.

Elite athletes generally tend not to run in the qualifiers for relay finals, I don't know why Rhasidat Adeleke should be any different. If then other women on the team were more capable they might understand the higher demands running more often places on the body.

It depends on the depth of talent in the country. In smaller nations with less depth, the ‘star’ athlete invariably runs. Look who ran the anchor legs for the Netherlands and Poland this evening.

Given that Mawdsley ran a 50-flat anchor leg, I’ll wager she understands the demands it places on the body pretty well.

Regardless, it’s a shame Adeleke isn’t available for the final. The team would surely obliterate the NR and wouldn’t be miles off the podium.

Given how she looked in her final expecting her to run a 4x400m tonight and then go out and do the same tomorrow was crazy.

I thought she looked knackered in her own semi and in the final. I wasn't surprised she didn't run the relay. It's the right call and Ireland wouldn't medal anyway even with her. At least the girls can take all the glory earned in their own right.
