Height of extension

Hi,

We're looking to build 20 Sq metre single story extension to the rear.

Question we have is can the height of the extension be higher than the boundary wall with our neighbour? The wall of extension would be built right next to boundary wall. We think it will be 1 to 2 feet higher than the boundary wall and almost certainly will reduce some light into their garden. I don't think the regulations are specific about height, provided it's single storey. Are there any consequences here, other than neighbour being a bit annoyed? Anyone know if there's any legal right to light or something like that.

Definitely can. My neighbour just built an extension a month ago and the height is higher than the boundary wall and no issue. Extension is near the boundary wall.

Check with the council before you do anything don't just take advice from some random social media site.

This. Our boundary wall is only 4-5 feet high which would lead to a non-habitable extension if we couldn’t go higher.

But the extension might be to the side and not rear of the building, end up higher than the side wall and the side wall could be an end wall.

If you read the OP, they specifically stated to the rear.
