I presume Lana Del Rey, Noah Kahan both headliners and the other two are in tier 3/ the tier below sub headliners (1.3m and 2.4m Spotify monthly listeners).

If I remember correct it was who you did a similar post with headliners ahead of schedule last year, I think getting like 4/6 right (Ellie Goulding and Imagine dragons I think didnt get announced in the end but played other FR festivals so was probably discussed as part of a package). If you look at R&L those 4 are all there, Gallagher there too, also remember the festival is much closer to R&L this year so I'd say even more sharing of acts. Versatile then probably in that tier two also although way smaller listeners.

Meaning 1 more headliner and 3 sub headliners to be announced (based on R&L I'm expecting Skrillex or The Prodigy to be amongst them for late night dance act, I've seen them both twice in 2023 both were excellent, as were The Prodigy at it in 2018). Or am I wrong assuming these are correct?

Noah Kahan, currently one of the most popular male artists on the planet.....

Never heard of him before but then I'm probably not the target audience (nearer 50 than I am 40)

Have to say I've never heard of him, Ah well the tickets will be easily sold if it comes to it. Will decide close to the time, quite a busy summer ahead as it stands anyway. 👶

American Ed Sheeran? American Hozier? Drippy acoustic balladry either way. Literally never heard of him before Fanirish posted his name saying he's headlining.

Hadn't heard of him so looked up his music and indeed I recognised one of the songs. Had heard it on radio over Xmas but was sure it was somelike Gavin James singing .

The names mentioned so far don't give me hope but I'm sure there will be plenty of good stuff.

Yeh. After last year im past giving a sh1te about the line up but its fun to have a headliner announced ive never heard of once.

Pfffft. It's almost like we don't have our fingers on the pulse anymore.

Same here. Had a listen last night. Anodyne, soulless and characterless. In terms of female pop stars they’ve all got their own individual style - Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lana Del Ray, Madonna, Kelis, etc. Most of the lads just sound like indistinct cardboard cutouts - Sheeran, Kennedy, Gavin James, Kahan, Passenger, etc. Every generation has music to annoy their parents. We’ve been gifted stuff to help us snooze.

A crossing of the rubicon moment for me certainly. Seems he has a huge social media following which appears essential to get any traction with EP's target market.

He's ranked 192 on Spotify's monthly listeners. That's nothing to sniff at, and I'd expect it's big enough to at the very least be a sub-headliner for EP, but it's also not exactly on the level of a household name artist either where it's shocking when someone hasn't heard of him. I doubt anyone could name a song by every artist in the Spotify top 200.

He has exploded recently going from playing the national stadium September (I think) last year (2023) to the point (showing my age) in February. Will be interesting to see the crowd he draws if at EP as even amongst my daughters group his appeal is very mixed

I'm 26 and I have honestly never heard of him before, I'd say very niche he's had practically nothing chart but has a lot of Spotify listeners, which again I think shouldn't be the baseline for bookings. And much agreed @Seathrun66 but I do feel this generation's music is by far the most formulaic/ over commercialised rubbish ever, particularly male singer song writers and chart pop music for the most part, its very annoying. I think in particular Dermot Kennedy (some music), Hozier, Pa Sheedy from ones I've seen are a few outliers doing something a bit different, can't say I like all of their music but have something different about them.

He sold out 3 arena in minutes on pre sale. He is red hot at the moment. His uk tour around EP are limited to vip package tickets

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,009 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Yeh going by the wiki overview of his singles we're an outlier. Only place he's had a number 1 hit. We get what we deserve here. haha

He actually had a song recently with Hozier, which was probably the first that I heard played widely on the radio in Ireland.

I'm not disputing that, and like I say it wouldn't be a shock for me to see him at the top of the EP poster, but it still doesn't make him so broadly famous that it's shocking for someone to have not heard of him, especially when he is still an up and coming artist and not an established act with a long successful career. I wouldn't go as far as the poster above in calling him "niche", because you're obviously fairly mainstream if you've sold out the 3 Arena, but if I got on a bus in town and started asking strangers to name a Noah Kahan song I also would expect to get a lot of "who's that?" responses.

Its pretty cool that new(ish) artists get a go in fairness. Prefer this fella (that i didnt know existed a few hours ago) to Picture This or Gav James all day every day.

Same could be said for Fred again, tame impala etc. Average Joe on the street might not have a clue.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,009 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Argh majority of music fans/festival goers were well familiar with both. This new geez has come out of the blue for most of us on here in past 24 hours.

normal complaint : the bookers are so boring and unimaginative, same old same old, give us something new!

new complaint : no no no! not like that!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,656 ✭✭✭C14N

Yes, I'd also not be that surprised if someone hadn't heard of them either. But maybe less so with Tame Impala at least since he's at least been somewhat big for a good few years now compared to Kahan, who only seems to have achieved some mainstream success in the past year or so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,760 ✭✭✭Fanirish

Yeah and EP has lucked out some years with bookings blowing up between booking and festival like Dua Lipa and Billie Eillish.

  • Registered Users Posts: 834 ✭✭✭crl84

    "Music fans"/traditional festival goers, yes.

Your average joe(sephine) on the street whose musical knowledge comes from whatever's fed to them on TodayFM/2FM during the day, are far more likely to know of/have heard a Noah Kahan song. And that's basically EP's target market these days. The same people that buy Ed Sheeran tickets and go to see Vogue Williams podcast live.

Yep. All a bit depressing. I used to think this forum was a fair cross section of EP's audience, varying ages, different musical viewpoints, everyone linked by a general love for music and the picnic. We're way off now, we're pretty much Abe Simpson shaking his fist at the cloud. We've no place in this headliner discussion really, hopefully there'll be a sprinkling of decent stuff lower down.

Anyhow continuing the 'Irish music is class' theme, lot of early love for Sprints debut album....
