Best student rates Ballina - Westport by bus / train

I'm trying to assist some guys that recently moved to Ireland and are starting college in Westport.

What's the best student rates they can get? Is the Leap Card relavent in their situation? I suspect that they might find that train suits for one direction and bus for the other. How integrated are we in 2023?

They need a student LEAP card for a start.

Online fares will be cheaper for single trips. Try a dummy booking to check the student fares.

There's no direct Ballina-Westport bus, so it would require paying twice using Bus Éireann route 420, Expressway route 52 or GoBus route 430 from Ballina to Castlebar and then a second fare on either Bus Éireann route 440 or 456.

You'd need to check the various websites to see what the fares would be, but there are no through bus fares available - they'd have to pay Ballina-Castlebar and Castlebar-Westport.
