My elderly mother has chronic back pain and she has no life from it now. Has anybody experience of a good pain specialist in the Munster region. She has been to one in the past and got injections into the back but very little improvement. Maybe it is the case that nobody can help her but it would be nice to give another specialist a go.

I use Dr Phil Hodnett via Barrington's in Limerick. He also sees public patients in UHL and elsewhere. I've found him to be both empathetic and skilled. 1 thing I would advise before seeing any pain specialist is to get CT/MRI scan and confirmation of any impingement or entrapment. It will make the injection far more effective.

I hope your Mam finds relief soon.

Hi @broken sink . Sorry to hear your mother is suffering so much. Personally, I have been attending Christine Cleary in the Cork Clinic, Western Road, Cork for the last few years and find her very good. She has really helped me to get back on track and with with a combination of medication and injections I am managing my pain instead of my pain managing me.

Thanks for the replies and the names. She is attending a physio and has pain patches and between the 2 the pain is not as severe as it was a few weeks ago. She is against the idea of visiting another pain  specialist because of the distance and multiple journeys that she will need take. Car journeys take a lot out of her but I also wanted to present her with other options just to give her some hope.
