Hi all,

So the engine on my car went, not worth repairing so I'm looking at an emergency purchase on a very limited budget.

Anything I should be looking for? It'll only be to get me till the new year but it's right on the edge of what I can afford.

Any opinions/advice would be appreciated

No NCT and "Car start and drive" would put me off immediately.

Unless you can get a good mechanic to give it a good inspection, then you would probably be throwing money away.

A Ford Focus might be a better option.

I don't see the point in buying a car of that value or age from a dealer. They are not going to spend money on it and won't stand over it if or when something goes wrong. If they are looking for that money then they probably bought it for next to nothing.

I'd be looking at something like a Corolla or Avensis.

Dumb question, why is car start and drive bad?

It was a ford I was driving.

Am in the Carlow/Laois area. Had hoped to get to December and get something to last a few years so really just after something to get me out of a hole

Look for a car with an NCT, putting it though the NCT will add much more value to the car than the cost of the test. So despite what the seller may say usually it will be someone who thinks it may fail would try selling it without a test.
