Can you claim from home and holiday insurance at same time?

Hey, random one here. My mother lost a diamond from her engagement ring whole on holiday. The ring is covered under her house insurance, but also with her holiday insurance.

Could she conceivably claim against both policies? The house insurance should cover the cost (minus the excess), but the holiday insurance will only pay out €400 towards the replacement.

    Cheers for any advice here.

It would breach the terms of both policies but she'd probably get away with it

You can only claim off one policy. Claim under the house insurance policy.

Where there are 2 policies covering the same loss, both must share the loss in proportion to the level of cover provided. You must advise each insurer of the existence of the other policy. You cannot receive benefit of more than the loss in total. In practice, claiming under both policies could cover the excesses applicable

Claiming under both policies without declaring the existence of the other is fraud
