.As regards the IDf being surgically precise, if that is the case why is Israel's closest ally in agreement with its critics that Israel has not done enough to minimise civilian casualties during this war. The American government have stated this on several occasions .

Regarding how Irish people felt about the Syrian civil war, if boards is anthing to go by, the vast majority of posts on a thread about it were anti assad. It's a mistake to conclude that a lack of protests means people are pro certain actors. You wouldnt accuse people protesting the Ukraine war as being guilty of double standards for not protesting various other conflicts first.

In any case your argument is weak when you have to use Assad as a yardstick to justify Israeli actions. Is that the standard now?

Regarding your accusations of anti semitism,as has been pointed out to you several times, conflating all criticism of Israel as being anti semitic is wrong as evidenced by the likes of Israeli human right groups and commentators like Gideon Levy and Bernie Sanders who are also critical of Israel, but as i said you know that already.

So where is this devastating response Iran and Hezbollah were promising us? Are they really that impotent, is the Prophet not willing to help his followers? Everyday that passes without a response is a humiliation for them surely

Strategically it's a better move for them though. Cheaper just to continue to supply rockets to hezbollah and hamas, or whoever replaces them, and have rockets contiue to annoy israel for the next few years.

Zionists trying to kill more UN personnel. A few Irish lads nearly struck in Lebanon. But I'm sure the apologists on here will have some reason why the zionists were perfectly correct and why the Irish lads were in the wrong.

given that its election year in the US they will be putting pressure on Israel not to go too far or it would be >100$ oil over night, Iran can go down the proxy route and supply their groups, as for Israel I doubt they are in the mood for ceasefires but they cant go around opening up fronts on all sides either. A tense steady as you go seems like a working assumption for now

Surely Iran won't take this lying down. They've been humiliated with that assassination. The Irish media must be hoping for a suitable response soon. Harris has no influence on the EU. Himself and Spain can feign outrage till the cows come home. Israel has to keep on keeping on. This has been a textbook military response so far. The civilian casualties are tragic but inevitable. I wonder what Harris wants to happen. I can guess. Let's see..Immediate ceasefire from Israel...Hamas and Hizbollah to cut back on their rockets..( no need for a full cessation of course ) and then pump UNWRA full of cash... rebuild Gaza...start some sort of talks that will ultimately screw Israel and then job done?

Will be very few people in Ireland "hoping for a response" by Iran (maybe kind of people who want to see the world burn, perhaps like some in Israel's current govt ironically!).

You are incorrect that the Irish and Spanish leaders have "no influence" on the EU.

There are members that won't countenance EU trade agreements with Israel being ended at present, but I don't think it will disappear from the agenda now.

I expect you will see other EU countries agree as time passes, or they may quietly distance themselves from Israel without all the hoo-ha of raising it at EU level.

Theres an article in some UK paper ,the idf use precision missiles to bomb the mosque school that was known to have children and civilians living there .the excuse was it was being used by

Hamas as a hiding place . So the idf thinks it's ok to bomb any building and kill 100 civilians if they can maybe kill 2 or 3 Hamas soldiers

There is really no safe place for children or civilians to go that is safe from being bombed by the idf and meanwhile Hamas are still likely hiding in tunnels safe from bombing

At this point does to the Israeli government even care about losing support from western county's apart from America

I find it interesting that the IDF can plan an operation inside Iran to target a Hamas leader with a pinpoint strike, but need to take out a school or hospital to do the same in Gaza.

Is there any MSM reporting this? Seems to be absent from the usual new networks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,688 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

MSM often bit behind when these things happen nowadays or just not worthy of attention. Possible little damage was caused.

There is always a tension but I'd say they wouldnt act rashly , there is a PR game too so its always beneficial to make it look like "the other guy started it" , the big question for Israel is do they attack Hezbollah now or have to deal with an even stronger one in 5 or 10 years? as it is Hez. are fairly well tooled up

Ah if Israel has any sense they should attack Hizbollah after Irans retaliation...whatever that ends up being. You can't have Hizbollah threatening Israel with rockets indefinitely . There's pressure on from families wanting to go home to Northern Israel. They've been away from home for months.

What are people’s opinions on Yisroel Dovid Weiss?
I was watching him there on aljazeera and he made some very good points about how Zionism is driving antisemitism.
Quite interesting if anyone saw it?

There's nothing new about this. Some of the biggest proponents of Zionism are massive antisemites. Take John Hagee and CUFI. Putting up the funds to expand Israeli settlements all with the hope that it triggers the second coming of Jesus so he comes back to convert or barbeque the Jews. They've made it sufficiently obscure that most can't differentiate the two and any criticism of Israel is deemed antisemitic.

Well any guy that's saying 'zionism' is driving 'anti semitism is going to be very popular in Ireland . He ll get invited on Matt Cooper and do the rounds. Anything that helps Ireland cover its arse is gonna be hugely popular

He has a point though, does he not?
Zionism seems to be the militant wing of Judaism but he’s saying there are many Jews who don’t want Zionism.
He saying Zionism is basically giving Judaism a bad name and driving antisemitism- which makes a lot of sense tbh.

Also would it not be a fair statement to say I support the Jews of Israel but I don’t support the zionists, likewise I support the Palestinians of Palestine but I don’t support hamas.

I saw on sky news Israel expects an attack in the next 7 days probably from iran and hezbollah .

hezbollah have 1000s of missiles and an unlimited supply of missiles from iran. one thing about tech it gets more powerful every year.iran is working on drones that carry more explosives and have a long range.

if iran launch,es a missile or sends them to hezbollah to be launched doe,s it make much difference?

Israel has no wish to get into a full scale war with the hezbollah

it would be logical for israel to try and get a ceasefire asap before the situation escalates into chaos or into total war .the problem is bibi does not want to have a ceasefire ,he wants to declare total victory for political reasons

  • Registered Users Posts: 300 ✭✭engineerws

Crooke says the opposite. He says Israel wants a war and wants the USA to fight it for them and this is their best opportunity to get the USA to fight the war for them.

It's funny how France and others urge Iran to de-escalate but not a word about Israel doing so. Israel and their enablers really have the mentality of a domestic abuser- look what you made do…!

They're always right and can inflict maximum harm with out ever accepting any culpability. We see this play out in this thread with some of the apologist too. It's a tragedy when Israelis are forced to leave their homes but not a word of sympathy when Palestinians are forced from their homes. I am sure it's anti semitism to point this out, though. Just as any criticism of Putin's Russia is really a mask for hatred of all Russian people.

Right wing zionism is the problem. As I've mentioned before, I believe that israel has a right to exist. I believe that it has a right to security. I'm 100% anti settlements. However the far right zionists want everyone to conflate opposition to the settlements with antisemitism. So according to them I'm an antisemite.

Zionism should be a broad church. There should be room for varying beliefs about what israel should be whilst at the same time being united in the singular belief that israel should exist.

Unfortunately the far right in zionism increases antisemitism. The same way militant Muslims increase Islamophobia, militant judaism increases antisemitism. The same kind of idiot who believes that militant islamists are representative of all muslims will believe that militant settlers are representative of all jewish people.
