Invading forces from where ? Egypt is the biggest recipient of American aid , the Saudis are allies too , its Iranian backed hizbollah and Qatari backed hamas are the only threat , well kept at heel , allowing Iran obtain a nuke is simply not something Israel should countenance, they should go on the front foot and obliterate the Iranian nuclear program !

I think the top 100 stupid posts would be those repeating the lie about 40 beheaded babies in spite of it being debunked almost everywhere, and no reputable journalist believing the story.

Honestly where is this large scale military uprising supposed to orginate from. Syria is a mess, Egypt an ally. Do you really think Hezbollah has the ability to invade Israel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,128 ✭✭✭xhomelezz

Still don't get what difference does it make, if they were beheaded, or shot or killed some other way? Does it matter much to you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

    Doubt that,

Who's preparing to invade Israel in a multi frontal assault, to invade Israel or as seen in Ukraine you need a massive army ,navy , airforce and logistics chain Set up all in advanced ,you need armour, air superiority, Naval superior,

Current Israel has the defence forces, defensive infrastructure,Air superiority, Naval superiority, armour superiority,a well trained and equipped military and reserves ,they are also back up by hundreds of US strike aircraft, bombers and at least 8 missle destroyers, and 2 aircraft carrier strike groups

Nobody is going to be invading Israel not in anyway which you described

Honestly can’t see a conventional threat to Israel here. Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt are all noes IMO. Iran is too far away to do anything, unless it wants to lob some missiles at Israel which could cause the US to intervene possibly.

CH4 news 7pm bulletin yet again informative and for all the wrong reasons. Pretty grim tbh. Like Israel the scenes in Gaza are utterly horrific.

Gaza age profile , apparently over half of the population in Gaza are under 18………

also a neonatal hospital in northern Gaza with many babies on machines were ordered to move , but they can’t and doctors won’t. Hopefully they don’t get bombed, huge gamble to stay but no choice.

the fact there is no water or food allowed through is utterly indefensible, there’s no excuse. In some areas where water comes on , they can’t pump it as there is no power ffs. The misery for hundreds of thousands. Egypt don’t want refugees, but said they’ll help once the crossing is “allowed” to open. Queues of aid waiting but stuck at the gates.

i think if Israel go in , it will be an epic mistake? This hamas crowd must know this , considering the sickening attack they carried out , which makes me think Hamas have got more to give or aren’t finished yet or something else?

bl!nken is skipping around the Middle East , I think he’ll fall on deaf ears in most of the region. US navy carriers could be for show or to support getting Americans out.

Israel’s reaction to the mass murder they suffered is pure fury, they want revenge. Who wouldn’t. but trying to beat one savage atrocity with another atrocity is not the way.

In 2006, Israel faced a formidable challenge when it invaded Lebanon and struggled to defeat the militant group Hezbollah. Despite their best efforts, Israel ended up leaving the war. However, it is important to acknowledge that Hezbollah has significantly evolved since then, becoming a much stronger and better-trained armed force. Today, Hezbollah boasts a larger and more experienced fighting force, largely due to its multiple experiences in the ongoing conflict in Syria. Given the strong ties between Iran and its Shia allies, it is highly unlikely that Iran would simply remain passive and watch their allies engage in hostilities alone. Another important aspect that is often overlooked is the religious affiliation of the Palestinians. It is worth noting that the majority of Palestinians are Sunni Muslims. This religious background holds significant implications when it comes to the potential for a jihad being called against Israel. The emergence of Mujahideen-like groups with state support against Israel may happen here.

Hezbollah has significant cruise missile capability and drone capability as of today. This implies that Israel would potentially face a situation where they have to confront missiles that could potentially bypass their defensive systems, such as the Iron Dome and Patriot. Israel's potential vulnerability in the event of a conflict involving Hezbollah, Iran, and other countries cannot be underestimated. The notion that Israel would emerge unscathed from such a scenario seems somewhat unrealistic. Given the capabilities and resources of these entities, it is plausible to assume that Israel would likely face significant damage if confronted with a united Middle East front.

the alternative had they lost is that they would be within their actual borders and they would not consider ever trying to expand outside them again.

    nothing more.

the so-called spoils of war was just simple land theft.

@Cheerful S Hizbollah has cruise missiles, mujahedeen, drones, bypassing iron dome and patriots,,

Sounds like a bargain basement Tom Clancy rip off ,

So explain how they are going to invade Israel without anyone noticing the very large army carrying cruise missiles on donkey? Or horses , never mind what Israel has they also have western military surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft over head

Israel need to put the tanks away, you just know the USA is trying to talk them down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,224 ✭✭✭✭end of the road

ultimately that's not going to be possible.

no matter how much israel bombs, iran will have a nuclear bomb eventually.

that should not be a problem, they aren't going to use it anyway and it's just for deterrent purposes.

that's the usual reason we are told countries have nuclear weapons so iran is no different.

And yet Hamas spent a couple of years plotting and preparing for the recent attack on Israel without being detected. Despite warnings in the days leading up to it, still didn't detect anything. Even after attack had started, incredibly slow to come to it's people's aid.

With all that surveillance, reconnaissance, intelligence from other countries and of course the extremely successful Mossad, Israel still didn't realise Hamas was about to cause their "9/11".

    Incredible.

I for one can't imagine him in a bomber jacket at the starting line, 'start your engines' (well I just did, but not in reality)

I hope he does a good and sticks to his apparent policy of moderating this from going much if any further than getting the hostages out and dissolving Hamas.

given that them doing what you suggest is going to do nothing, it's ultimately irrelevant.

Irans raison detre is the "annihilation " of Israel, they're quite open about it , hamas mantra is to "find every jew behind every rock " , imagine living with that threat ! The DPRK are using nukes for the reason you stated , the Iranians with their twisted ideology won't care about bringing the whole show down ! The quaran & Bible both say we are God's most beloved creation (if that's your bag) but they've no problem mutilating it in his name !

Apparently the full list of council is Burundi, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi (for Africa); China, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait (for Asia-Pacific); Albania, Bulgaria (for Eastern Europe); Brazil, Cuba, the Dominican Republic (for Latin America and the Caribbean); France, the Netherlands (for Western Europe and other states).

Some bolded members I'd say have higher human rights scores than the original list (afaik)

    I don't think so unfortunately.

It's not like walking into JIHADIKEA and asking for the nuclear weapon isles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85,350 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

We probably long already have feet on the ground if we're being literal. They're just never gonna talk about it, especially not if it's not either a huge success or an abysmal failure. Tom Clancy is watching from heaven like he's reading a new book he wrote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,224 ✭✭✭✭end of the road

    yeah, yeah, sure.

iran's interest will simply be to have a deterrent and no more.

it's good enough for america and many other nations.

Hamas has seen a moment of clarity

Richard Engle joins Nicolle Wallace on Deadline White House with the news that Hamas is willing to release foreign nationals unconditionally when "field conditions are right"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

Yeah I don't think it's going to work like that.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

They already have special forces on the ground in Israel advising the multiple Israeli special forces teams ,and you get the feeling the numerous US heavy lift aircraft that have been arriving in tel Aviv over the last few days and coming days will bring more including Bidens PSD and their support units

  • Registered Users Posts: 167 ✭✭mode1990

America hasn't threatened to wipe another country off the face of the earth, albeit they're the only country to use nuclear weapons on another state , other nuclear democracies like Britain & France aren't likely to go rogue , iran is capable, kaffirs in the west are fair game !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,236 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

Israel may have already killed them with their bombing. I wonder why hamas would keep them alive if a ground invasion was imminent.Probably should have tried to negotiate for their release from the start and then bombed and invaded.

John Oliver's 5+ mins cold open this weekend was very moving

“The immense suffering in Israel and Gaza has been sickening to watch and we’re not going to be covering it in the main body of our show tonight for a couple of reasons. First, it’s horrific. I don’t really want to tell jokes about carnage right now. And I’m pretty sure that you don’t want to hear them. And second, we’re taping this on Saturday afternoon. And you’ll be watching it Sunday night or Monday morning through an illegal VPN, I do know who I am talking to.”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,737 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

How likely a scenario is that? What invading forces are likely to overwhelm the IDF?

    Hezbollah? Lebanon? Syria? Iran?

With 2 US aircraft carrier groups near the area, I just can’t see it.

The talk about a 2 front war is over egged too IMHO.

The IDF could literally surround the roughly 65,000 metre Gaza land border with soldiers within touching distance of each other with around 10% of their mobilised troops.

What is often overlooked in superficial analyses of the 2006 conflict is that by the end of it, the Israelis had realised that they were going up against a slightly different level of opposition than the angry Palestinians with whom they had had the majority of their differences over the preceding two decades, and changed up a gear. The results of the Israeli military in the last few days were far more acceptable to them than their initial incursions, Wadi Saluki notwithstanding. Omissions in training against more conventional weapons were also rectified in the years subsequent (not least due to Wadi Saluki), and Israel discarded, or at least heavily modified its more esoteric effects-based doctrine of the time (Systemic Operational Design) which drew from post-modern French philosophy. Hezbullah may be improved from 2006, but Israel hasn't lagged.

    Rubbish.

It's a meme at this stage.

Israel would love to have the youtube generation behind them.

100% why their nuclear program should be destroyed before it makes weapons capable of carrying out its promise to wipe Israel from the face of the earth ! Tragic that mesapotamia, the cradle of civilisation that gave us algebra and other scientific advancements would take us back to primitive behaviour , after all we all stem from Abraham !
