The claim was not that Israelis were accidentally killed by their own side. It was that the Hannibal directive was launched to kill civilians. Now perhaps you've seen some actual evidence that this was done, but I haven't. Just speculation.

I'm happy to reconsider when you provide evidence though.

It would seem that Bibi isn't flavour of the month with the Israeli public

"The majority of Israelis believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should accept responsibility for October 7 and resign, according to a survey conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute.

The largest share of respondents – 48 percent – said that the prime minister should "accept responsibility and resign immediately," while another 24.5 percent said that he should "accept responsibility, but resign only after the war."

For certain, Netanyahu has voiced his disgust at US talking to Hamas.

It might suggest that perhaps even Trum can't really be seen to sanction ethnic cleansing and genocide, maybe the Arab solution might be a better one?

I'd say Netanyahu won't outlast his current term in Israel, but who knows? There is support within Israel for exterminating Gaza as it stands and Hamas.

That's rich, coming from the lad that bankrolled them.

This old deflection with the antisemite rubbish again. Also start a thread on the Syrian stuff if you want as this is the Hamas attack thread.

They have definitely committed war crimes and there are arrest warrants out for Bibi and Gallant. No doubt about it. The Genocide in Gaza is very real too.

As posted previously, Yoav Gallant gave the order. He's the one with an arrest warrant against him for war crimes.

Also, as previously posted, whilst the numbers fleeing the festival in their cars and shredded by Israeli attack helicopters (who reloaded and went back a second time) is not known - presumably because there was nothing identifiable left. But there were 70 cars. And they were civilians.
There was also an investigation of a house containing Israeli civilians - I think 18 - which was pounded by Merkava battle tanks. And it was found it was as a direct result of the Hannibal directive.

It must be really hard on the IDF with such difficult choices to make. Perhaps they were so traumatised they just had to anally rape a prisoner with an iron bar. Or murder Nuns and sheep. Even murdered three of their own surrendering hostages.

But yeh, such potentially understandable decisions.

So you don’t consider eye witness evidence to be, eh. Well, evidence.

The US has stated publicly that it "is not an agent of Israel". I'd say alleged War Criminal #1 blew a fuse.

The following explains how and why it happened.

    Haaretz:
"It's impossible not to appreciate the Qataris' brilliant diplomatic move last week. After Prime Minister Netanyahu returned intoxicated from his trip to Washington, convinced he controls President Trump, the Qataris made their move. They're sick of Israel, a wrench in the works of their regional plan, so they simply eliminated the middleman. Qatar called up Trump's special envoy for hostage affairs, Adam Boehler, and offered a dream deal: Get your five American hostages, including Edan Alexander, who is alive, almost for free.

Who says you need Israel? Let the U.S. and Hamas talk to each other directly" – Chaim Levinson

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,537 ✭✭✭dmcdona

It's not surprising. Smotrich is also talking of ethnically cleansing Gaza by removing everyone in 6 to 12 months.

Also, it seems as though Israel is now desperate to regain political and physical control of Gaza and the ceasefire talks - now that the US is talking directly to Hamas (see below from Haaretz).

Of course, cutting off electricity to the whole of Gaza is collective punishment and a war crime. I'd imagine another few boxes of evidence are winging their way to the ICJ and the ICC as I type.

A Hamas spokesman said that the organization "has no problem" meeting with U.S. officials "because we understand that [the U.S.] has the power to pressure Israel." He added that talks to begin Stage 2 of the deal are underway, adding that Hamas set three conditions:

    1. An exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners
    2. Israel's complete withdrawal from Gaza
    3. and a commitment that Israel not restart fighting.

It was good to see a Distinguished Service Medal with Honour presented to the family of the late Private Billy Kedian.

Private Kedian was fatally injured by shrapnel after a mortar round fired by the Israeli-backed South Lebanese Milita exploded inside the Irish base at Barasheet on 31 May 1999.

Irish soldiers have been supporting peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon since 1978.

Those peacekeeping efforts have been discussed here previously. UNIFIL plays an important role on the border between Israel and Lebanon

It's a shame some people don't see it that way.

Zionists see Kedian and others as collaborators to be killed and neutralised. Their whole belief system is an anathema to democracy

As I ate my breakfast this morning I thought back to storm eowin here. We woke up to no power or water, we were without it for 5 days and it seemed like hell. But we had our house, could light a fire in the fireplace and with our gas cooker still feed ourselves.

Today in Gaza the Israelis have turned off the power, which in turn knocks out the water. They aren't allowing any aid or supplies in and most of the population are out in the open with little or no shelter.

You don't have to bomb or riddle people with bullets to commit war crimes. When you deliberately target civilians, men, women and children. Sick and vulnerable people. You are committing a heinous act, cruel and torturous behaviour. The world stands by with little more than a murmur on the news of what's going on there because the main bombing and shooting has stopped. But the aggression continues unabated. How can it be considered to be right?

Well then I disagree with that…

You see Gaza was a slum in 1985 (see here) with the Israelis effectively keeping their foot on the throat of the Palestinians. It was an apartheid state 40 years ago, and its still an apartheid state today. You will also note this was three years before the foundation of Hamas as well, hence the reason Hamas are a symptom.

You see there is only one of two ways to deal with the Palestinian problem (a phrase used in that video also)…

    1. You remove them through ethnic cleansing (or actual eradication as some Israeli ministers have said).
    2. You actually give them something, basically anything.

Seen as Israel have basically denied the second at every opportunity we're left with seeing the first play out.

How many Israelis have been killed by rockets launched by Hamas? Has there been a single injured?

Hell, even on the same page we've had a poster claim that the reason the largest number of child amputees in the world are in Gaza are due to Hamas rockets misfiring. Nothing to do with the fact Israel has leveled the place.

It would seem that the Gazans have more to fear from their own "resistance" force than the Israelis themselves no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,169 ✭✭✭Bishop of hope

Fair enough and I see your point.

But Hamas have to have realised that their every action was bound to cause a reaction and that was going to result in at least many multiple deaths in Gaza. Hamas were never going to front up in a firefight, they were and are hiding among the general public a sure recipe for innocents to die. + the fact that they gave Israel the excuse.

I do think they underestimated the current Israel response that lead to the deaths being in the multiples of thousands.

And just to add, that they may have though the rest of the world wouldn't let it happen?

Aside from a brief period when Israel was dealing with the immediate aftermath of October 7th, Bibi hasn’t been flavor of the month in Israel for years. Now that the dust is starting to settle, people are beginning to reflect on what happened and consider who within Israel should be held accountable. I spent Friday and Saturday in the U.S. with a group of Israeli colleagues, so I got a good sense of public sentiment. The vast majority want him to resign as per that article. They wanted him to resign before October 7th, for other reasons.

Good to hear. Why so unpopular now - the security lapse when Oct 7th happened, or because of the response to it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,537 ✭✭✭dmcdona

Starvation tactics and cutting off electricity supplies are really really cheap. It's not as if there anything left to bomb to rubble either or terrorise the population with constant explosions.

So, nice and cheap, no need to stress out the IDF and saves a bunch of money on buying in the bombs.

    What's not to like?

Oh yes, it's a war crime and chances are it will kill some if not all the hostages, as well as tens of thousands more Palestinians.

Israel is acting like a terrorist state.

Lots of discussion here about the use of human shields during this current campaign. And has been pointed, Israel also uses the technique:

The IDF's Military Police is investigating six cases in which Israeli soldiers forced Palestinian civilians in Gaza to serve as human shields, endangering their lives and violating international law. The Military Advocate General's decision to launch the investigation came after an International Committee of the Red Cross report from January highlighted the phenomenon.

Positive news for the hostages currently held in Gaza, but no thanks to the Israeli Govt. And it's clear there is a distinct rise in anger towards those in power.

"U.S. President Donald Trump has grown tired of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's stalling in the negotiations with Hamas.

First, the Trump administration cut out the Israeli government from the talks and spoke directly with Hamas.

Now, they are also trying to cut out the middleman and speak directly to the Israeli public. U.S. special envoy for the hostages, Adam Boehler, presented to the Israeli public on Sunday what Netanyahu refuses to say – that there have been positive developments in negotiations, and more hostages are set to return home" – Chaim Levinson

There were a few posts recently suggesting that Hamas would use construction funds to rearm and rebuild.

As previously posted, Hamas had stated they would disarm and play no part in Gaza. This positive news has been confirmed:

Boehler (US hostage envoy) told Israel's public broadcaster that Hamas negotiators had proposed a five-to-10-year truce with Israel that would see the group disarm and cease playing a political role in Gaza. As part of the truce, Boehler said, the U.S. and other allies will help "ensure" Hamas upholds the agreement, adding that he thought "that was not a bad first offer."

    Grim times -

"In a post on Truth Social, president Donald Trump confirmed the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, a prominent Palestinian activist and permanent US resident with a green card.

“This is the first arrest of many to come,” Trump said.

The president said Ice took Khalil, who led protests at Columbia University during his time as a student there, into custody after his executive order and claimed, without evidence, that similar activists on college campuses are paid agitators, not students."

Seems Trump is seen as the Messiah and has told Israel it's time to inherit Gaza. And I wonder if the books confiscated are going to be burned. Chilling times.

Haaretz (if you subscribe, for free, you'll be sent a daily summary by email)

In an interview with Reshet Bet public radio, Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman of Netanyahu's Likud party said that the "only solution for the Gaza Strip is to empty it of Gazans," adding that Netanyahu's government is "committed to the idea of encouraging emigration" of Palestinians from Gaza. She also said she believes that "God has sent us the U.S. administration, and it is clearly telling us – it's time to inherit the land."

Israeli police raided East Jerusalem's Educational Bookshop on Tuesday for the second time in a month, arresting one of its owners, 61-year-old Imad Muna. Muna's family, who manages the store, told Haaretz that the police confiscated books and ordered the store's closure without presenting a search or arrest warrant.

    More on that student -

"ICE agents arrested Khalil -- a leader in the Manhattan university's encampment movement -- on Saturday night, claiming that his student visa had been revoked, his attorney, Amy Greer, said in a statement to ABC News.

However, Khalil is in the United States on a green card and not on a student visa, Greer said Sunday. Despite informing agents about his legal status, ICE detained him, she said."
