Frozen ham

Have an organic ham in freezer since last Christmas. Is it ok to cook it or should I throw it out?

It will be perfectly safe to eat, maybe not as flavoursome as it would have been last year but it'll be grand.

Cook it up and taste it.

If it's ok to your taste then eat it as is.

If not make it up in pies with a strong sauce.

But above all don't dump it.

If worse comes to worst give it to someone who has dogs.

Not great advice although it will in effect be absolutely fine. To suggest masking the taste of food that doesn't quite taste right with sauces is dangerous. (nit great for the dogs either)

That's pretty evident if you think a ham that was frozen, then cooked is bad for a dog.

I'm running out of question marks here. Originally I was responding to elperollos post, point is if the meat is gone, you don't feed the dogs with it.. Haven't got a clue about Fido food, don't even know why it was brought up? Cooked ham from the shop is certainly no good for dogs, look up the amount of salt or curing salt involved. Don't really need to be expert.

Yes, thaw it completely, slowly, in a cool place and then cook it well: my late mother's time was, once it started simmering: 25 mins to the pound plus 25

Alternate was 25 to pound and then let it cool down in the cooking water to outside temp, was usually at Xmas so 4 or 5 degree.

Sorry Jim it might have seemed I was suggesting covering up gone off food with sauce.

As you said, the ham will be fine but if the OP doesn't like the taste a sauce will help to make it more palatable.

As for the dogs, a small amount of ham mixed in their diet won't harm them.
